Great job, as usual. One question/comment. I'm confused as to how you are so high on our secondary after describing so many long TD receptions. I'm sure it's just lost in the translation between being there in person and then reading a write up. Would appreciate some insight.

Let me explain

I'm high on the secondary from the sense that last year it was 2 really good players and then a very noticeable drop-off. The younger guys have progressed really well and now we have 4 quality SEC corners. Now are they top 3 rd draft picks? Maybe not but the depth is much better.

As far as the long TD's. 7 on 7's and 1 on 1's are grossly skewed to the offense. No QB pressure and all day to throw. Scrimmage is too since no one can touch TR.

Same here. I think Chris Jones is in for some very tough

competition over the next couple of years.

I understand why we can't hit tr, but is anyone else worried about how he's going to react when he gets hit against Osu? He's playing 2 hand touch to get ready for tackle football. He is a senior though. So hopefully he'll be fine

Is he down at first contact or can he bounce around a bit? I'm not expecting him to be Anthony Dixon, but these speedy guys don't work out well if they can't figure out how to bounce off tackles..

I can't remember a wr that breaks tackles for us. We've had the easiest wr's to tackle I've seen in the sec

Isn't it the norm that you can't tackle the QB in our practices? It's been that way for a few years.

There not going all the way to the ground. Staying up high. But when someone gets him, it's over. He's so small it looks like the D has trouble locating him. A tiny crease and he hits it immediately. It's a cheap, easy comparison but think Dexter McClusterish

Not hitting QB's is definitely the norm. Especially this year. That's why I haven't said much about Tyler b/c it's hard for me to judge anything.

Yeah I'm pretty sure most teams don't allow hitting qb in the spring. What concerns me is the coaches letting plays continue once he's been touched. For a qb that had trouble getting rid of ball quick enough that doesn't seem to be a hood practice method. In fact I think they call sacks sooner rather than later

I hope he gets a fair amount of reps in the spring game. His speed has me excited, but I guess it all depends on how well he can hide behind a blocker and then quickly find space.

I think the main thing is they want to find ways to give him a few touches a game. He's too fast not to

I started to say the same thing on my doom and gloom report from this Saturday, but I knew the sheep would go nuts. DE is our most talented/deepest position IMO. Unless Jones has been hitting the weights hard (not for size, but for strength) and goes balls out in practice, I don't see him playing meaningful minutes this year. He's not going to beat out Denico, Ryan Brown, or PJ Jones. If he can surpass AJ and Torrey Dale, then he could get some snaps. Problem is that AJ has been having an impact at practice as well. And that a good problem.

Also, he has the worst hands on the team. He is a threat though. Like Free is saying, if he finds a little space, he is gone.

No. Last year TR was taking shots in practice. On several occasions, the coaches would rip him for not getting rid of the ball, sliding, or running our of bounds. I remember one time when Harrison-Gay blasted TR and he ran back into the huddle and Mullen smirkingly said "I'd get rid of the 17n ball if I were you".
This year's practices are definitely less intents then last years. Rightfully so. They kept it under wraps, but they have already cancelled a practice because TR was sick. That's how crappy the QB situation is right now. Having to cancel practice because 1 player is sick is scary.

He's an early favorite for me. I agree DS, I think Brown is going to have a huge year. Apparently, the kid has grown 2 inches in height since last fall.

This isn't a fair evaluation. TR held the ball and took shots in the chops while waiting for (deeper) routes to open. He could/should have thrown the ball away instead of taking the hit. More of the blame goes to the WRs for having no speed and no ability to separate.

Hoping for an improved ...

pass rush which has been totally lacking during Mullen's time here. This area has to be a focal point for defense. Even with the 2 AA type corners we had last year, our pass defense suffered due to a complete lack of ability to pressure the QB.

I think a lot of that was our bend but don't (yeah right) defense. We had a horrible scheme, but our dl didn't play that well last year

The last good pass rusher I remember us having was Willie Evans. That guy was a beast and I wish we had more like him. I think he had 15 or 16 sacks his senior season.
