No doubt my excitement is at an all time low. I want to be excited so bad. Is there an anything positive that can come from this season? I haven’t kept up with HS recruiting or the portal. Do we have any noteworthy talent on either side of the ball besides QB? Will we be improved or O or D? Is 3 wins really the ceiling?

Until they prove me wrong I expect the oline to be equal or worse than last year. The dline will be slightly better.

First time I was really into state football was 2007. I was going to games like 2000ish onward, but I was super young and didn’t really care. 2007 I was finally locked in as a fan. 2008 was pretty ******, but 2009- onward was a fantastic era. Point is, I never really experienced a period of suffering like the last few years. How did yall make it through the end of Jackie and pre 2007 Croom?

An equal oLine with a much improved d line (like from grade F to C) means a lot. Not saying it’s going from F to C but if it does it helps a ton.

There is actually a good reason to have optimism for this up coming season. Lebby and crew have totally flipped the roster through the portal from the disastrous recruiting of Leach and Arnette. We have upgraded coaches with the addition of Laodholt on the OL, adding Dancy to OLB/Jack coach, adding Mike MacIntyre and Paul Rhodes to the defensive staff will pay dividends. Not to mention the increased funding of BI/SEF has but is in a more favorable position than ever before since NIL was created. DWS upgrades with LED lights and a few other changes that will take place this fall.
I could go into more details but the woe is me poor ols of this board will be here soon to pass of false narrative and negative BS…. So I’ll hold off.

Should be a fun 3+ months of everyone on sixpack starting a hundred different threads stating they aren’t excited for football and won’t show up for games this fall.
Well, enjoy it, then, Captain Obvious.

Sack your ire and place it where it belongs. The steps of the Bryan Building.

It wasn't too hard to be a Miss State fan during the mid to late 90's. Two bad seasons in football but hell I think they still beat Bama three times. Other than that, during that period there was two CWS trips, Final Four in Basketball and a Trip to the SEC football Championship.
From about 1994 through about 2021 seems like the golden era of MSU sports, and it appears the administration worked overtime to maximize negative returns on all of it in a shockingly short span of time.

If we can just be bad on defense as opposed to HISTORICALLY BAD last year, we could win a couple of more games. I am just looking for signs of improvement this year.

2025 Missouri Baseball is a good comparison to the 2024 MSU Defensive Line

Most people here, including me, want to believe all of that. But it's going to require us seeing a much different team take the field combined with much improved coaching before most people buy in. Last year's bad vibe went beyond wins/losses, which was bad enough.

With the invention of the NIL, I have given up on Mississippi State football. I know it sounds a bit defeatist, but we aren't able to spend $30 to $50 million on football players. Until they figure out how to make an even playing field, we are always going to be in the bottom half.

I’m cautiously optimistic. It looks like Levee is figuring things out. If he wins 5, he should be conference coach of the year, if we go bowling he should be national coach of the year. 2025 os going to he a tough year due to schedule, hopefully we get relief in 2026.

I especially enjoy those who have “no interest” in football continuing to comment on football.

Good point. No-one reading, and posting, on a college sports message board has "no interest" in football. Just like I seriously doubt any of our baseball fans, are baseball only fans, no matter how much some want to bltch about us and every red penny spent on the sport.

I have no illusions of thinking that we're going to reach the status of Georgia or LSU one day, but I think we're either going to have to quit caring at all or else be willing to accept baby steps. Like, we can probably agree that we're not going to win many(maybe zero) SEC games, but can we at least not get embarrassed on our home field by a G5 team this year?

Back when Mullen was coaching the talking heads on ESPN said he was going to have a good winning season every 4 or so years when his recruits were more seasoned. Well, those days are over. Now it is a revolving door every season and that is what concerns me the most. We don't know what we have until we play against a real team. At least in the past you knew the players returning that were striving to get better.
