Looks like the commissioners are closing to the 4 team playoff...the biggest hinging point being only conference winners being able to participate. Here's what I've gathered so far:

1. Probably use the current BCS bowls and rotate them for semifinals. This makes the most sense but I'd kind of like to see the 1s and 2s get a home game, but that does add more teams to include into the bowls.
2. Championship game bid out.
3. Selection committee used to help smooth over certain circumstances....such as 2 teams from one conference. Looks like the majority only want conference champions to participatebut continue to use BCSas a guide. I think the compromise will be only if2 teams from the same conference are in the top 3 of the BCS standings will be eligible.....a #4 ranking will not automatically get you in. This would've affected the SEC in 2006 and 2008.

They say to start in 2014....is that 2014 season....or Jan 2014 (2013 season)?

Here are the #4, #5, #6 BCS standings all the way back to 2000.

2011- #4 Standford, #5 Oregon, #6 Ark
2010- #4 Standfor, #5 Wisconsin, #6 Ohio State
2009- #4 TCU, #5 Florida, #6 Boise State
2008- #4 Bama, #5 So. Cal, #6 Utah (Florida was #2)
2007- #4 Oklahoma, #5 Georgia, #6 Missouri
2006- #4 LSU, #5 So. Cal, #6 Louisville (Florida was #2)
2005- #4 Ohio St., #5 Oregon, #6 Notre Dame
2004- #4 Texas, #5 Cal, #6 Utah
2003- #4 Mich, #5 Ohio State, #6 Texas
2002- #4 So. Cal, #5 Iowa, #6 Wash St.
2001- #4 Oregon, #5 Florida, #6 Tenn
2000- #4 Wash, #5 Va Tech, #6 Oregon St.

where the top 3 ranked league champions plus 1 at-large team (which may or may not be a league champion) will make the field. Not exactly what the SEC wants, which is the top 4 teams period, but it's pretty close in practice. I'd rather see the semis either held at the top 2 seeds or bid out like the championship games. If they did bid them out, the current bowls could bid just like any other city could and if they pay the most, they'd get to host one.

gotta go with a hybrid to prevent oregon-stanford situations from last year arising. oregon finished behind stanford due to playing lsu in basically lsu's backyard, but oregon won the pac 12 and beat the crap out of stanford. still maintains the integrity of not allowing 3+ L teams in, but makes the conference championships mean something (i.e. maintains a level of emphasis on the regular season).

let the Sugar, Orange, Rose, and Fiesta rotate on the semi final matchups (1vs4 and 2vs3) . Then as mentioned, bid the chamionship game out to whoever wants to pay the most money for it.

You know everyone except the SEC wants just conference champions to be allowed to participate so the SECmay have to sacrifice alot to make this happen. Maybe they could do a provision that can be revisited after 2 years so they can make some adjustments to the final scenario after trying it out for a couple of years. With super conferences forming, I almost kinda like the idea of just 1 team from a conference can participate.

I didn't like having two SEC schools in the championship game last year, but if we're having a four team playoff, it would have been ridiculous last year to not have Alabama in the top 4. I'd rather keep the system as is than go outside of the top 5 or 6 teams to fill a four team playoff.

It needs to be the Top 4 or 8 teams in a playoff. It's not the SEC's fault that we have the best teams in the country...
