34 PPts for beating 1A Giles
and 30 PPts for beating 2A James River

Dang....
You get 2 bonus points per classification you play down. Then you get bonus points for each of their wins. I other words they played 2 c4 schools

without the added bonus point why would any upper school schedule down? It is not a perfect system by any means but without something like this small schools would struggle to fill the schedule.

The points system needs to be redone. Getting bonus points for playing a lower level district team makes sense. Getting BP for scheduling a lower level OOD team is being taken advantage of. A C4 team shouldn't be playing a C1 team. If they choose to do so they shouldn't receive so many BP or the points received for a lower class team's wins should be reduced. I'm not picking specifically on Blacksburg, they're doing nothing wrong, just playing within the system we have. I think the VHSL needs to re-examine how PP are earned and make it more fair. Either give less points for beating a lower class OOD team, either through limiting BP for more than 1 class lower difference, or lowering the points earned for each opponent's wins if they are more than 1 class lower.

Well said @mikesalem. I totally agree with District teams, but I think playing Ood games below more than 1 level should not involve bonus points incentives. For the higher classification team.

You also get 2 points per win. So for playoff purposes if you beat a 8-2 C2 team it's better than beating a 7-3 C4 team even though the C4 team is probably better.
C2
4 points for playing down so it's the same as playing a C4 team and 16 points for their wins.
C4
No bonus points for same classification and 14 bonus points for wins
So you end up 2 points to the positive
Bruh, I know.
Then why are we even discussing it? This is how it's been done for several yrs.

Blacksburg has always played Giles. It's not like they started playing them this yr to try and make the playoffs. Just something to think about.
LB on the other hand scheduled several lower classification schools recently and avoided a near by C4 school. Ex Riverheads and Appomattox

I know Blacksburg has played Giles a number of times. They also played James River, Floyd, and Altavista this year. Imagine if they had beaten all 4? Blacksburg just played within the system we have. They didn't do anything wrong. But, going forward the points system needs to be redone so the VHSL isn't rewarding playing down more than playing your own level or higher-up. Just my 2 cents.

Something does need to be done; I'm not sure exactly what, but look at teams like Alleghany leading 3C similarly. Half their district is class 1/2 teams. I wouldn't say no points for beating lower level teams, but maybe cap them at 20 or something?
