You get 2 bonus points per classification you play down. Then you get bonus points for each of their wins. I other words they played 2 c4 schools34 PPts for beating 1A Giles
and 30 PPts for beating 2A James River
Dang....
You also get 2 points per win. So for playoff purposes if you beat a 8-2 C2 team it's better than beating a 7-3 C4 team even though the C4 team is probably better.without the added bonus point why would any upper school schedule down? It is not a perfect system by any means but without something like this small schools would struggle to fill the schedule.
Then why are we even discussing it? This is how it's been done for several yrs.Bruh, I know.
Only hurts you if you lose.without the added bonus point why would any upper school schedule down? It is not a perfect system by any means but without something like this small schools would struggle to fill the schedule.
Blacksburg has always played Giles. It's not like they started playing them this yr to try and make the playoffs. Just something to think about. The points system needs to be redone. Getting bonus points for playing a lower level district team makes sense. Getting BP for scheduling a lower level OOD team is being taken advantage of. A C4 team shouldn't be playing a C1 team. If they choose to do so they shouldn't receive so many BP or the points received for a lower class team's wins should be reduced. I'm not picking specifically on Blacksburg, they're doing nothing wrong, just playing within the system we have. I think the VHSL needs to re-examine how PP are earned and make it more fair. Either give less points for beating a lower class OOD team, either through limiting BP for more than 1 class lower difference, or lowering the points earned for each opponent's wins if they are more than 1 class lower.
