It's almost always the proper call to go for it on 4th-and-1, no matter where on the field you are. I was proud of Mullen for making the call.

getting his ignorant arse whippedon the lineand State was really pushing the line at that point. I thought we should've punted too but was concerned that our coverage team would allow them to get back to midfield anyway. He obviously made the right call!!

In a 4th and 2 feet scenario, Relf should be able to line up behind center and bulldoze his way to a yard and a half 9 out of 10 times. However, when you set up in shotgun, hand it off, and then make the runner go 5 yards for a first down, I just felt like there were too many things that could have happened to screw that play up. Luckily, it was executed well and we got the first down, but I thought that a Relf QB dive was the safer call.

we needed to make a statement. That was a defining momet for us. In the past Croom would have punted and I think that sent a message of "I don't believe in you enough to get two inches". It was certainly risky, and Dan would have been widely criticized had we not gotten it. His team knew that to. But Dan sent them a message by going for it that said, " I believe in you enough that you can get those two inches on Georgia. I trust you knowing that my reputation is on the line here, but I believe in you." I think getting that fourth down really helped the confidence of the offense. It really seemed to jump start things for us, and it demoralized the other team. I think it also showed the confidence that he had in the defense as well. He was also saying "If we get stopped, I believe that our defense can still stop Georgia".

The thing I was worried about was a jump pass or something else crazy. But Dan did the right thing. And I have no problem running that play from the gun since we're a spread team.

I think that drive was the one that Arceto Clark scored his TD on- might be wrong about that.

I agreed with the call because I thought if UGA scored, we should still have time to get a drive in. Don't want to rely on the offense like that the way it had been playing, but you consider (1) getting the 1st almost certainly wins the game for us, (2) our D, despite having given up chunks of yardage, had kept them out of the end zone, (3) if you can't get 4 & 1, can you really expect to win, (4) less than stellar special teams coverage,

I think it looks like the right call. It's hard to do with a lack of playmakers, but I still like calling plays like you expect your players to be able to execute basic plays.

I can't recall the exact stat but the odds are stacked in the offense favor up to around 4th and 6. 4 and really short the odds are overwhelmingly in the offense favor.
