I think 2A should be 600-800Yeah, something close to that. I can see the 2a going up closer to 800. In the ADM's in the fall there were around 52 schools with enrollments at 1800+. I'd say they'd probably drop the largest 5A number a little to around 1600ish. That'd put the guestamated classes:
1A - less than 500
2A - 500-800
3A - 800-1200
4A - 1200-1600
5A - 1600+
Again, that's a very rough guess just quickly scanning through last fall's ADM's. They will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-90 schools per classification.
I think 2A should be 600-800
That would be terrible and probably won't happen. Andrews has 200 kids and would have to play vs schools 3x as big while 2a would be close enrollments. 2a should be 500 to 800 or 450 to 800.I think 2A should be 600-800
I don't know if there is any kind of system that 75% of the schools would agree on .I read somewhere that it did take 75% of the schools to agree to a change now I don't know if that indeed is true, but I would like to see 8 classifications with there being no more than a 200 student gap from largest to smallest school it's the only fair way to do it.for example if you did 5 classes a school like Mountain Heritage would have no chance ever winning a state title we have about 600 students and there's no way we should have to play schools like Shelby in the playoffs.
That wouldn't continue. If I've noticed anything its nothing stays the same.As a Tarboro fan, I would really love to see our program back in 2A. It would put a lot more strength on our schedule and put us back into a conference rivalry with SW Edgecombe. No offense to most of the teams in 1A, but the 42-point running clock game after game is not exactly entertaining.
I think the divisions will still be based on percentage rather than a fixed number. If it is a 20% per level, then 1A and 5A (old 4A)will stay the same. I also believe they will either subdivide all classes or none of them.
It would be fun to get Tarboro and WRH together again, though I'd certainly like a different outcome next time. That wouldn't continue. If I've noticed anything its nothing stays the same.
I would love to see the 1-a cutoff at 550 and alleviate the 1st round bye it would alleviate a lot of bickering.
and why do we need Tarboro in 1AI would love to see the 1-a cutoff at 550 and alleviate the 1st round bye it would alleviate a lot of bickering.
Sounds like everyone wants the cut-off just above their number lol
Not me. I want Tarboro above the line.Sounds like everyone wants the cut-off just above their number lol
I hear ya, but we can't help where they put us.and why do we need Tarboro in 1A
450-475 would be about right, similar to Tenn cut-off. Still be way above what we have, but at least you would still have plenty of teams
Isn’t that just semantics? Sounds like it would be just going back to the four classes, with 25% each, and subdividing each class. They would just be called something else. When you come up with the numbers that you think are good for 1A you have to consider how those numbers will work out for the other three classes.
I like a percentage of teams in each class and not a set number. 1A and 5A at 12.5% and the other classes at 25%. For football only 2A, 3A, and 4A subdivide. 1A would be about equivalent to small 1A and 5A would be the current 4AA numbers.
If they are not going to do it fir this alignment and that is how it looks they have to start looking at realignment after the upcoming one on how to split non traditional schools and 1A. Defining a non traditional will be the interesting part.

1A having 12.5% and 5A having 12.5% changes non football sports especially for 4A. We are football centric but the board needs to think about more than football.
Once again, NCHSAA offered a separate football only alignment option (alignment before current one) and the schools were overwhelmingly against it. “Too complicated. Would hurt historical rivalries. Would hurt overall sport rivalries.”
My preference is Football alignment done separate breaking down to six playoff divisions based on that school years ADM with no basis on their current classification. I have explained it here before.
The non football would have five classes with the fifth class being 1A non traditional to include district schools that allow out of district students to play sports.
How many districts don't let out of district students play?
It would be the same amount of championships, but there would be some subtle differences. The small end of 1A and 4A are at a serious competitive disadvantage to the top half. In 2A and 3A, the bottom half is not nearly as noncompetitive and thus the entire classification has a realistic chance at winning. I think its a pretty good idea. In 1A specifically, it gives lower half a fighting chance to compete against schools their own size.Isn’t that just semantics? Sounds like it would be just going back to the four classes, with 25% each, and subdividing each class. They would just be called something else.

Can you petition to play up in NC? I lived in TN for several years and this was allowed and it happened often it seemed like. Which most were just moving up to stay away from Alcoa lol.
They could probably petition up if there was a compelling case and ADMs were trending that way. Aside from football, Tarboro is just another 1A size athletic program and the ADM numbers are showing no sign of going up anytime soon. Can you petition to play up in NC? Yeah, Tarboro's adm's are trending down. They are just a 1a school, that happens to have an overabundance of talent. No smoke and mirrors, cant knock them for that...They could probably petition up if there was a compelling case and ADMs were trending that way. I think it is outrageous for a team that is capable of winning in a higher bracket to play down a size.Yeah, Tarboro's adm's are trending down. They are just a 1a school, that happens to have an overabundance of talent. No smoke and mirrors, cant knock them for that...
