Mississippi State at Middle Tennessee, Oct. 17: This is what head coaches refer to as an athletic director's game, because no SEC head coach in his right mind would agree to play a Sun Belt Conference team on the road. It's the ultimate everything-to-lose, nothing-to-gain situation. Rewind to last season. The Bulldogs played at Louisiana Tech to open the season, lost the game and never recovered.

Thanks LT!

There is high demand and shorts supply of cream puffs since college football schedules went to 12 games. We could have played them only at home for major $$$. To keep it affordable and to keep it from being a deal that somebody else would out-bid us on (like Jacksonville State that time they backed out), we agreed to a home-and-home.

The Ninja has not differed from LT on this, BTW.

Why are we the only ones doing this in the SEC? I don't see Bama going to Monroe. Other than that one time that Ole Miss went to Jonesboro do I see them going to places like Ruston. I don't see Vandy going to places like that other than MTSU, which is essentially in their backyard.

I'm tired of the money excuse. If we want more money for the seventh game PAY THEM to come and hopefully the profit we get from having seven games will overcome whatever we have to pay.

And another one of LT's biggest problems was that the contracts he would set up were too easy to get out of. I'm still waiting on Baylor to get on the schedule. It ain't going to happen though.

I swear, we are so damn bush league when it comes to football.

Byrne will tell you that though he's trying to solve the problem.

Vandy is going to Army and Rice this year. They visit Eastern Michigan and UConn next year.

Hopefully the ESPN money will allow us to become competitive when it comes to bidding on these games againt other conferences.

The benefits of a win, if it helps us get to a bowl game (and right now we need our 4 out of conference games to get to a bowl game), far outweigh whatever it costs to get them to play in Starkville. Also, at home we get the ticket sales to help cover the cost. Everyone always talks about how expensive it is to get someone to come play, but what kind of price tag do you put on the La Tech game last year? It's not even close, spend the money, get our 4 OOC games in Starkville, and more than likely reap the rewards. And also, no more GT and West Virginia nonsense until we have a chance against them. We should have tried to buy out of the GT game this season.

The Ninja is actually scheduling 2 for 1 deals like the one with South Alabama, which will be a Division I-A program by the time the deal begins. That doesn't eliminate the 6-road game seasons, but it does cut down on them considerably. The Ninja has also publicly stated that his goal is to never have a 6-road game season.

Vandy actually hasn't played at MTSU recently at all. All of the games between those 2 have been @ Vandy, although it isn't a bad drive for the tens of MTSU fans. Especially considering MTSU has won the last 2 meetings. Vandy has recently stated that they will not play MTSU anymore, as they are basically in the same pot as we are with Southern. Nothing to gain, everything to lose. That said I think they've been trying to or have set something up in the next 5-10 years.

only because they are in Mobile vs Troy, Jonesboro, or Ruston.

If they were Tulane, no one would say anything.

Mobile is a decent town for a weekend and is close to the beach.
