Why do we suck so bad at is. All the D has to do is line a guy up wide. Don't necessarily even need a blitzer. It is disappointing that our offense can't line up, adjust to the defensive alignment, and have some consistent success.

It's cause Claussell and Siddoway were awful last night. They were getting smoked one on one. No way to "adjust" to that unless you just scrap the formation and start giving them help.

^This. 5 wide you better be looking for the mismatch quickly otherwise you are going to get destroyed.

Yep. Five wide reminds me of the Sun Tzu quote about winning the battle before fighting the battle. It all happens pre-snap.

This is my biggest problem with Russell. He holds the ball too long on nearly EVERY play. Even the throws he completes are late. He doesn't hit the receivers on their breaks- he waits til their open before throwing. That only gives the DBs time to get back to the WR. And down the field, it's even worse. Arceto was right to be upset on the long ball he caught- if it wasn't under thrown by ten yards, it's an easy TD.

I am not sure our receivers know what to do on 5s. The one time I remember that TR actually threw the ball quick Morrow did not have a clue.

Or we need to teach them how to run pass patterns

Our WR's are 4th year players- they know all they are going to learn by now

a 5-wide set is for quick slants and outs, Middle and bubble screens, and QB draws. Anything more than that, and you are gambling with your QB's safety

Well then we need more creative pass patterns for them to run. You have to be looking for the ball on a quick slant, and I didn't see any quick slants

I saw Bumphis motion in to block a DE in this set when he was wide open in the right slot. He got destroyed and the DE destroyed Russell. I guess he was in that slot because we don't have any TE's healthy, but if he's open he should just turn around, catch the ball and run upfield. We are not using this set correctly.

You are right about our 4th year receivers being at their learning limit. That is one of my biggest concerns with this staff. They are also in their 4th year and our receiving corps is very poor at creating open looks for the QB. They just are not very capable of that needed separation. This is the problem with Tyler's slow trigger. Now, I don't know if it is personnel, scheme, instruction or a combination of all those, but it is a big issue for the offensive side of the ball right now. And it has been for a long time. Conversely, this has not been an issue for any of our opponents so far, even if only between the 20's. But it just goes to show that it should not be that difficult, particularly for a team of our caliber.

You're right, both Siddoway and Clausell sucked last night. I saw the DE get around Siddoway and contact Tyler two plays in a row. We obviously didn't want play football last night. We are lucky Tyler wasn't actually hurt. After watching Florida St. and Clemson, we look super slow all around.
