I suck at statistics. How many 2$ superfectas would you have had to bet to cover every possibility for the field today?

Would love to know if anyone actually hit it.

If all 20 had started, then you would need $2 * 20P4 = $2 * 20 * 19 * 18 * 17 = $232,560. For 18, it's just $2 * 18 * 17 * 16* 15 = $146,880. Keep in mind that while you would win this time had you bought all the tickets, most of the time you would come out way behind due to the nature of parimutuel betting. You get a huge chunk of change for this superfecta because the favorite finished last.

Sired by Birdstone who beat Smarty Jones in the '04 Belmont. Birdstone was sired by Grindstone who won the Derby as did his Pop, Unbridled. And Unbridled was the grandson of Mr Prospector who was one of the great sires of all time.

We've visited a few of the farms since moving to Lexington last year. Saw A.P. Indy, Lemon Drop Kid, Smarty Jones and a few more. Worth a trip if you're interested in racing.
