Paul Jones reported and I'm hearing same news. It appears the Liberty wants State but the SEC wants the Liberty to take Vandy. We shall see how this unfolds.

Be prepared to book Birmingham. This could go the other way.

If the SEC gets Vandy in the Liberty, we really shouldn't have a beef in all fairness.

Nope

Nope. Bowls have already been decided. Vandy would have been bitching a week ago. It's done Liberty

Looks like they kept us off their home page like they were supposed to but screwed up and updated their merchandise page early. Or just said 17 it, we're going to go ahead and start selling MSU merchandise early.

With their record, they should be in the Music City.

I wonder if the Bears will send a crowd there, since they're disappointed with such a minor bowl?

More proof that Paul Jones is and idiot...........

It was common knowledge Tuesday of last week that we were going to Liberty...

I heard last Tuesday from a two people with $$ connections, and I didn't doubt that they knew way more than me.

Then Wednesday the Liberty Bowl added this picture on Facebook...

I think the issue yesterday wasn't at all about the Liberty Bowl wanting anyone other than State. Issue was... Last minute, I believe the SEC was lobbying for Vandy to get that spot due to their record. When all is said and done, it's about $$ and ticket sales. That's why Liberty was solid on their choice weeks back and remained sold on keeping their word.

I'm not denying it. Just saying some stuff came up yesterday where it was a possibility.

Im not denying that something may have been brewing yesterday, but the bowls had essentially been worked out well before yesterday. All those leeks on all the other bowls started happening b/c they were already set. I never bought the hype yesterday b/c it would have taken an act of God to get reshuffled at that time. Vandy should have been bitching and lobbying from the get go like we did last year to get the Gator.

From what I have read, including from Paul, there was a push from SEC and Vandy yesterday to change things at the last minute. Liberty held firm with their decision and vote from earlier in the week. That did not mean that the SEC could not have tried to apply pressure to make a last minute change, which appears to be what happened, that could have resulted in a different bowl. That has happened too many times in the past for it not to have been a possibility. We had lobbying last year for the Gator Bowl. This year the bowl wanted us tremendously and stuck to their guns. I thought it was decent reporting about a POTENTIAL change and keeping fans informed.

Last week it was Liberty nearly 100% certain. Saturday and Sunday the SEC and Vandy made their push. So Paul was onto what was happening.

It was never 50/50 yesterday...

If the SEC really wanted Vandy in the Liberty they would have made it happen...

I think that was the OP thinking. I never saw that percentage anywhere else that I can recall. What Paul and others were posting was that it was all but certain heading into yesterday unless the SEC stepped in. It appeared that the league office was stepping in and he reported that there was a chance that it could change and things became "up in the air" for a while yesterday afternoon.

I understand that Paul was very very close to this one. No one is questioning his sourcing. All I'm saying is that when ESPN and the big money gets a slate ironed out, it would take an act of god to change it. I don't doubt Vandy did some bitching but I'm saying that I never bough that anything would change. There is also another account that says Vandy went shopping on their own and pissed off the SEC. All these story lines are interesting but I never bought anything would change MSU from going to the Liberty at the 11th hour.
