Love the Laurence fans, LWW guys and the PC crowd. No one in 5a will beat the winner of this game barring unforeseen injuries. I know all about Laurence being a Fenwick guy and they can't touch these teams on the lines, and for as talented as their skills are JCA and especially Naz's skill blow it away. Laurence is a decent team and they're building a solid program but they aren't on JCA/Naz level yet. LWW is overrated, from an overrated conference. They don't have the athletes to compete with these two. Sorry like everything else on here it's simple opinions but I'm pretty confident in them.

I wouldn't go as far as saying state championship next week. I can't even believe a Montini guy posted started this thread. Wait yes I can. I remember being at the Quarterfinals game 2 years ago that was also billed the state title game. Montini won the game and celebrated as if it was too. Only to get to Champaign and lose to SHG. Nothing is guaranteed.

I'm pretty sure that the IHSA won't present the 5A trophy in LaGrange Park Saturday. There will be 2 more games to win.
This...

Always fun to see these threads though, except OP left off the

I love, love, love, love this quote by a typical Mount Carmel alumnus, please allow me to retort.....

Thank you captain obvious! Yes the score was closer than most expected, so thank you for your expert observation/opinion. I find it is quite amusing, that a MC alum decides to weight in or take a jab at another CCL program right after his own beloved team got bounced. I ask you Mr. Expert, is Brother Rice suspect too because they didn't blow out South Elgin in round 2? I'll answer that for you, NO SIR, you know why? Because in the playoffs, a win, is a win, is a win and Rice like Laurence did what they needed to to get out of an uncomfortable situation, it's called over coming adversity.

I was at the St. Laurence/Rich Central game so I will add a little more depth than what you provided. RC had a nice backfield and a strong game plan which included miss direction & capitalizing on their team speed, good move on their coaches part! STL's special teams had numerous missed opportunities in the 1st half; they botched an extra point, missed a very makeable FG, had a KO returned for a TD and another Olympian return that set up a score. If they can shore up special teams and not put their defense in short field situations they can play with anyone in 5A, including the ESCC teams mentioned. That's what their coaching staff did at half, and they allowed 7 2nd half points and their offense scored 14, game over.

The only portion of your one-liner that I agree with is you saying, "I wouldn't say a win over Tinley is automatic," because that would be taking a shot at the Titan program.

A win, is a win, is a win in the playoffs and me being an STL fan will take it anyway possible, it's been a long time coming!

Best of luck to Loyola, Rice, Montini, & Bishop Mac in the quarters, hope to see all of you in the semis and beyond!
that was a JC alum

after watching JCA dismantle MCC twice. i have concluded their defense is extremely well coached and their preparation for any surprises is well thought out. Their offense is powerful in not only the running game but also through the air. They will be hard to beat!

I have a question relative to 6A. Given your comments regarding LWW, should LWN's victory over them in OT cause some concern for LWN in their upcoming game against Hinsdale South, a team which by all indication is currently on a hot streakr?

Hinterland,
You might want to take what he says with a grain of salt since 3 of the 4 teams who made the playoffs from that side of the conference (LWW, LWN and Bradley Bourbonais) are in the quarterfinals.
Barely beating LWW is no negative, they have one of the best Olines and running backs in the state. I think LWW has a great shot of making it to the finals.

Whoever wins the Hinsdale South/LWN game WILL be in the 6A championship game, probably winning quite easily over Crete-Monee in the semifinal, which makes this upcoming game of such great importance. I was strictly going on TPF523's post. However, your post is also informative. Again, my own take own on this is that Hinsdale South has the hot hand right now, but you seem to think LWN has a chance at beating them. I would imagine that's why they play the game.

I don't quite get your game, but if you are trying to be farcical, you're doing it wrong.

Chill out, mchsalumni, not trying to be farcical (if you are referring to SHG somehow). I do not know how to say this any plainer: The Broncos will NOT have to worry about facing SHG in the championship game. Unless you have watched them all season as I have, do not try by insinuation to say that I do not know what I am talking about.

This game is pretty simple to figure out...Can Naz stop the run and force JCA to throw the ball into a very talented group of DB's? Can JCA stop the big play and force Naz to try to Run on a very talented group of D-line and LB's? Both teams have been rolling--- :) just trying to steer you all back to original topic lol

I really don't have a feel on this game. My gut says it is going to be a shootout with the last team having the ball wins. What I would really like is a 42-7 JCA win. Makes it much less stressful.

Does JCA want to get into a shootout with Naz though ?

Preferably no. But I don't think a shootout automatically means a win for Naz. JCA has the ability to put up points in bunches and they are now fully healthy on offense. Having Davis back in the lineup makes them even more explosive.

Jca has one is number of shoot outs.

What JCA does not want to do is get down by more than two scores. That is when it gets tough for them. Blow for blow, that's never been a big challenge. That doesn't mean they win all those blow for blows, but they win more than their fair share. In fact. Given the state of our defense during the non defense years, we'be won "too many" shoot outs.

JCHilltopper overheard saying this in regards to game Saturday:

``It`ll be just like the first game,`` JChilltopper said about Saturday`s Class 5A state Quarterfinal in LaGrange. ``We`ll take `em like that. Nothing`s changed.``

nice try dean-o.....that was the MC player just prior to us smashing you in the playoffs...en route to what is likely the third best title game in IHSA history...a JC lost to WWS in some numbered OT.
