I love, love, love, love this quote by a typical Mount Carmel alumnus, please allow me to retort.....
Thank you captain obvious! Yes the score was closer than most expected, so thank you for your expert observation/opinion. I find it is quite amusing, that a MC alum decides to weight in or take a jab at another CCL program right after his own beloved team got bounced. I ask you Mr. Expert, is Brother Rice suspect too because they didn't blow out South Elgin in round 2? I'll answer that for you, NO SIR, you know why? Because in the playoffs, a win, is a win, is a win and Rice like Laurence did what they needed to to get out of an uncomfortable situation, it's called over coming adversity.
I was at the St. Laurence/Rich Central game so I will add a little more depth than what you provided. RC had a nice backfield and a strong game plan which included miss direction & capitalizing on their team speed, good move on their coaches part! STL's special teams had numerous missed opportunities in the 1st half; they botched an extra point, missed a very makeable FG, had a KO returned for a TD and another Olympian return that set up a score. If they can shore up special teams and not put their defense in short field situations they can play with anyone in 5A, including the ESCC teams mentioned. That's what their coaching staff did at half, and they allowed 7 2nd half points and their offense scored 14, game over.
The only portion of your one-liner that I agree with is you saying, "I wouldn't say a win over Tinley is automatic," because that would be taking a shot at the Titan program.
A win, is a win, is a win in the playoffs and me being an STL fan will take it anyway possible, it's been a long time coming!
Best of luck to Loyola, Rice, Montini, & Bishop Mac in the quarters, hope to see all of you in the semis and beyond!
