I have concerns with the future of college football, but this season has softened my stance on a reshaping that may not include everyone in the Power 4.
Before this season, I was extremely worried that we were headed to a future 24-32 team super league. Teams like Indiana having success is good for Mississippi State.
the Big Ten proposal to advance the playoff to 24-28 should be supported by every Mississippi State fan. Being in this range is an attainable goal for us with a competent coaching staff.
During the 4 team playoff era, there was a year where 88 of the top 100 high school players went to six schools. That shaped my opinion that we were headed to a Super League, an opinion held by many pundits and well connected people.
The ground has since shifted. While there are still some that believe the top teams should pull away from the rest of college football, I think that the cut off point will affect the Group of 5 rather than the bottom the Power 4. There has been more data, and while my main concern bas been TV contracts, it seems that we are moving toward private equity running college football. We will be included but might be a sideshow.
I remain concern that our university does not seem serious about being competitive in football, and is just happy to be invited to the party, but many on this board share that opinion. We have an unexpected bowl game in front of us that is winnable, and hopefully we can win in the portal and attack a very challenging schedule next year with a team that is competitive.
