Harvard played Rutgers without its starting end, Robert F. Kennedy, who broke his leg in practice that season. According to the November 2, 1946 Harvard-Rutgers program, the future Senator from New York State and U.S. Attorney General of the United States was listed as “Bob Kennedy,” 5’ 10” tall and 165 pounds. He was #86. He also appeared in the program and played in the Rutgers-Harvard game of November 1, 1947.

As far as the game went, Rutgers upset #17 ranked Harvard Crimson 13-0 at Harvard Stadium.

As a student member of the Princeton College Football Association, Tommy Wilson, as he was called then, played a role in setting up the November 2, 1878 game with Rutgers. By 1913, his very close friends were calling him by his middle name: Woodrow. Everyone else called him “Mr. President.”
