Tupelo looks so strong. I'm almost to the point where I say they can't be beaten. I think their only threat is the weakness of Region 1. They can't get used to that level of competition because the playoff teams from Region 2 will be much better than what they see in Region play - even the 4 seed.

MaxPreps has all 25 teams ranked. Tupelo is of course #1. The rest of Region 1 - #18 Southaven, #19 DeSoto Central, #20 Horn Lake, #22 Hernando and #24 Lewisburg. That region is bad outside of Tupelo. DeSoto County football is wretched.

Region 2 - Madison has no offense. They play NW Rankin tonight and could start 1-3. The defense is stout, but I believe you have to have an offensive threat to win in 7A. Its going to have to get better or they will go from preseason #3 to fighting for a playoff spot. Starkville is probably the Region 2 favorite at this point, and they don't look like they have in the past. Oxford, Clinton and even Germantown could step up and steal this region.

Rankings - #4 Starkville, #6 Madison, #7 Oxford, #8 Clinton, #12 Germantown, #25 Murrah.

In the South, Brandon, Ocean Springs and Oak Grove are all top 5 teams in 7A. One of them will likely win the South, but watch out for D'iberville to play spoiler. They are 3-0 and are putting up points. I don't think they can win the South, but they could win Region 4 if Ocean Springs falls.

Also, congrats to the 7A volleyball region champions - Lewisburg, Madison Central, Brandon and Ocean Springs. That should be your Final Four with Germantown as the possible spoiler.

Nobody can stop Tupelo in the north. Probably not in the state. South should be interesting. New coach is stifling Brandon's offense. Oak Grove got curb stomped by Germantown and is 1-2. Could easily be 1-3 after tonight. Coast teams traditionally can't compete with Division 3, but this could be the year for an Ocean Springs or maybe d'Iberville.

Having the talent in DeSoto couny divided between 4 7a schools plus Olive Branch, Lake Cormorant, and Center Hill doesn’t help. I believe Lewisburg is only 20
Students above the threshold to be 7a. DC is the disappointment of that group with the number of students they have. They can’t seem to get a decent coach there.

ETA: Horn Lake is not bad this year. They won’t scare Tupelo, but they’ve got a pretty good team.

Only 7A I’ve seen in person is Starkville, and they do not look like Starkville. I think Tupelo will murder them. Not sure yet on the rest of region 2.

ETA Louisville should have little trouble with Starkville tonight.

7A is pretty bad minus Tupelo. Another reason why there shouldn't be 7 divisions in MS, they've ruined HS football.

Been awhile since I've seen Brandon get beat as bad as they were last night. Clay has multiple D1 talent on both sides of the ball.

I think part of it is too that Brandon made a strange coaching hire. Good coach but a bad fit for Brandon. He’s just as bout killed their offense. And I’m sure there’s some tension between him & the offensive coordinator to say the least.
