I am beginning to think it is inevitable that GBW ends up in 8A. There are too many bubble teams above them that have tough games next week.

Either Bartlet or Glenbard East have to drop since they play each other. I don't see anyway Brook beats HF, as much as I'd like to see that. WIth just factoring in those two games, GBW ends up in 8A. Well at least that will answer the big question.

On additional team to include on the bubble is Wheeling. They are 3-5 right now but with a win over 2-6 Elk Grove and a Hersey win over Rolling Meadows they would get the automatic bid for the MSL East. They have a 1728 enrollment, very near the 7A/6A cut line.

JD,

Some bubble games add a team to the projected field and some remove a team.

Either Bartlet or Glenbard East have to drop since they play each other.

I only have Glenbard East in the projected field of 32 8A qualifiers.

---

The most important games from a perspective of GW being part of 8A (and one of the 32 largest enrollment schools) is removing a school that is already projected to be part of the field. This would be Joliet West, O'Fallon, and possibly Plainfield South and Waubonsie Valley (but even if PS and WV lose, they already have 5 wins and may very well accumulate enough playoff points).

The other bubble games for West Aurora, Lake Park, Minnoka, and Schaumburg can add another team to the playoffs with a larger enrollment than GW, so even if Joliet West loses and one of WA, LP, Minooka, or Schaumburg wins, it would be a wash and GW stays in 7A.

Joliet West v Lockport is really the most important bubble game.

Right. I think I knew that but will add Wheeling, but still projected out for now.

From a cut line perspective it could be a wash if only one MSL-E team makes the field. If Wheeling ends up MSL-E conference representative, then a 5 win Hersey team still needs enough points.

Also, the MSL-W has a chance for every team to make the playoffs, depending on playoff points, with Schaumburg d. Fremd and Hoffman Estates d. Barrington.

Sorry, no plans to work through more classes. The final brackets should be available soon enough this Saturday.

So after spending all weekend convinced GW was going 8A, I am now flipping my opinion. You have shown me the light.

Key game is now is West Aurora beating a Metea Valley that was just decimated by Glenbard North.

WA pulls off the upset earns their 1st playoff bid since '94 and pushes GW down to 7A where, for their sins, they get the pleasure of playing Libertyville, Batavia, MC and a LWN team with a chip on their shoulder.

I'm going to hang in and continue to hope GW is in 8A. There are still possibilities. And yes, I am very hopeful of a HF/ GW 8A final.

Updated with week 8 points.

Per IHSA Clinchers and Hopefuls website, so far 156 teams have clinched a berth in this year's playoffs. There are 100 berths remaining.

If points for five win teams are low, West Aurora may already have qualified, regardless of week 9 result. They are assured 33 points with a loss and four opponents playing each other. Plus two more points with opponents Geneva and Plainfield East playing winless teams and being huge favorites. The other opponents East Aurora and Elgin play St Charles East and St Charles North, so no points there.

Plainfield South and Waubonsie Valley are also most likely locks for 8A field with five wins and enough guaranteed points after a week 9 loss.

For GW in 8A, now you really need the ESL strike ended and ESL winning vs O'Fallon.

bump.

Added Lane Tech back as 8A bubble team and added West Aurora as in the 8A field as they should have enough playoff points even with a loss.

Simeon will go up when Lockport beats Joliet West.

IHSA site already has the O'Fallon/ESL game as a forfeit. That means unless for some strange reason West Aurora doesn't have enough playoff points, GBW stays down.

I agree with your analysis.

The only big mystery for the 1-4 seeds in the larger enrollment classes is whether LWN somehow ends up in 7A.

With Bolingbrook coming into 8A, that has to push everyone down and bury LWN deeper into 6A, right?

6A/5A cut still TBD, but not any high seeds involved.

LWW looks to be 5A.

Looks like only thing in question is if Peoria ND is in 6A or 5A. If both Galesburg and St Francis don't make it, then Peoria ND will be in 6A. If either or both make it, they will be 5A.

Galesburg (4-4) must win vs Canton, MI (6-2) to make it.

St Francis needs Maria (0-5 ???) to win vs St Joes (1-7) to make it

Looks like an uphill battle for both.

Not quite. St. Francis would lose the tiebreaker regardless. They're OUT

If one of Galesburg or Alden-Hebron win and get in who is the first team out?

If 1 wins Tolono Cumberland is out. If both win West Aurora is out too.
