Here are the latest proposed match ups in 8A Let's take a look at which ones are not what we used to see with the North/South brackets

(32) Aurora West at (1) Loyola NEW
(17) Stevenson at (16) Oswego NEW
(25) Fremd at (8) Barrington OLD
(24) Sandburg at (9) New Trier NEW
-
(29) Bartlett at (4) Edwardsville NEW
(20) Conant at (13) Maine South ???
(28) O'Fallon at (5) Brother Rice NEW
(21) Belleville East at (12) Curie NEW
----
(31) Joliet West at (2) Huntley NEW
(18) Warren at (15) Oak Park-River Forest NEW
(26) Waubonsie Valley at (7) Naperville Central OLD
(23) Evanston at (10) South Elgin NEW
-
(30) Plainfield South at (3) Homewood-Flossmoor NEW
(19) Lyons at (14) Palatine NEW
(27) Marist at (6) Hinsdale Central OLD
(22) Neuqua Valley at (11) Niles Notre Dame NEW

By my take its 12 games that we would not see in the first round under the old method. Three that are pretty similar to what we would see and one that I am not too sure about. 75% is not too bad. The longest two trip are O'Fallon traveling to Rice and Belleville going to Curie

Some of these match ups are new based on which of the usual suspects are sitting out this years dance

Conant and Maine South are "OLD"; they played in the playoffs a couple of years ago.

I think Edwardsville ends up with the 3 seed. They need a win from their out of conference teams which I think will happen tonight. That means they will finish one point ahead of HF and take the 3 seed. That's just my uneducated guess at this point though.

HF will likely get 2 points from their non conference opponents (Stevenson and DGS) which will them an additional 5 PP for the week. If Edwardsville's non conference opponents win both of their games then they will also receive 5 points and end up with 1 more that HF, clinching the #3 spot. If 1 of those teams win and 1 loses, then there is a tie and a coin flip is required. If they both lose, HF clinches the #3 spot. Edwardsville's non conference opponents Quincy and Rock Island, I think) have tougher games in week nine. I am not sure if they are favored but I will admit the #3 spot is much more coveted than #4!!

it seems to me Huntley will get the 2 seed with Edwardsville getting 3, also HF will drop to 9-10-11 seed based on their loss tonight. This is presuming Loyola beats MC later today, which I think will happen. If GW stays in 7a then Loyola will have a cake walk.

GW will be in 7A. While I am glad Bolingbrook won for several reasons, If Loyola has to play HF before DeKalb, I would not call Loyola's path a cakewalk. While lots of us, including me, have written many anti HF post mainly inspired by the crackpot muse aka Golden Domer, the fact is HF is a very good team and they may bounce back with a vengeance.

In not sure why I posted 2 seed for Eville last night. I was caught up refreshing the page every 3 seconds waiting for bones to update the final plays of the game.
