Why does it always happen in a school setting? Why not malls? Why not crowded events?

I know it happens in those places but it seems as if school settings are the norm for the mass shootings.

So...apparently there was a thread on something called 4chan last night that has been taken down. In it a guy claimed that people needed to stay away from a school in the northwest because something was going to happen. Supposedly people were piling on and giving the guy ideas. I'm guessing they didn't think he was serious.

To paraphrase Willie Sutton...Because that's were the people are.

Starts in HS, kids are different, get bulled then get out on their own and become isolated and just lose it.

CNN article I just read says the incident rate has tripled since 2011 and this is the 45th school shooting this year. Seems impossible.
There is most certainly a measure of copy-cat-itis that is furthering this phenomenon.

There is a gun for every man, woman and child in the US. That ratio is not approached by any other nation on earth.

And much of our parenting approaches lag behind many, many other countries/cultures. Its funny isn't it. This country has tried multiple approaches for gun control.......didn't change violence much at all. However, parenting has become more and more out of control.....as the death toll rises. To me it's a massive correlation.

Plus you know noone else in there has a gun.
Yeah, they're worried about getting shot...that's why most of these sickos usually kill themselves.
I SERIOUSLY doubt that some sick mothaf'kr is worried about who else has guns when they decide they're deciding to commit a sick act. Most of them WANT to die.

To be truthful none of the gun control measures ever taken have ever mounted to a hill of beans. Background checks...but you can go to a gun show and avoid one...some localities have passed stricter controls...but just a few miles up or down the road those controls don't exist...

That's only because we are blessed with a great big government and school system that parents our kids.Parents are too busy anyway.

And schools are being stripped of their ability to guide kids. Teachers can't discipline a student anymore. All they can do is send them to the principal who will just call a parent......which the parent will do nothing more than just yell at the school for sending their kid to the office.

Parents are "too busy" because they've been sold the idea that everyone needs a car for every driver, all of the latest gadgets, more home than they can afford... none of that has to do with "big government" or "school systems". If you're a baby boomer like myself, your mom probably didn't work or like my mother, didn't work until I was 10-12 years old. Now, everyone "needs" two incomes to provide the standard of living to which they think they are entitled...or they're a single parent. The school is raising their kid because the alternative is that the kid goes home to an empty house and waits for mom and/or dad to get off work.

You can thank John d Rockefeller and his General Education Board in 1906 as the movement that led kids away from their parents and into the hands of a school system.

Because school might be the worst place on Earth.

It seems this type of crap never seemed to happen before the 50's, yet we still had violence, mental disorders, and guns during that time. So what changed? What's different about society that this is happening now?

The best guess I can come up with is that the American society as a whole is just too entitled at this point. It's a very broad answer and explanation. But it seems people want an instant fix for their problems, some materialistic good, or some sort of feeling. Less people work for this stuff. Our parents, and parent's parents, worked for things. They shut up, kept their head down and earned their keep. They had problems? It wasn't anyone else's fault but their own. And they either fixed it, or suffered till they were old and died.

I think this entitlement, lazy, "look at me!" social attitude is the root of almost every issue. People are just dogshit at this point.

Still, you would think that any gun control measure at all would have any sort of effect on gun violence. It really doesn't do much.

It's because the evil has not been corrected. In the mind of evil thought, then method of execution is irrelevant. In the mind of evil....if there are no guns, then make a bomb......if there are no bombs, run a crowd over with a car......if there are no cars, then poison.....if there is no poison, then knives......etc, etc.

Putting a band-aid over a splinter is dumb.

Then why don't they walk into a police station and open fire?

^That's kinda weak. My wife and I both work, but when we get home we raise our kids. There are scores of parents who don't raise their kids whether they work or not.
Don't think I said anywhere that my statement was universal and applied in every case. The question is why are parents not raising their kids? What are they doing with their time that they should be parenting? I believe there is a lot of truth in my statement. Might I add that parents today were likely children of parents who were either 2 income families or single parents and thus many had bad/poor examples of how to be good parents to start.

Yes. But they dont want to die before they kill enough people to get on TV.

Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the US. Definitely doesnt help them.
