This week on Out of Left Field, Charlie Winfield and I pulled a few interviews together from guys who were big players in the 1997 Regional. State guys were Eric Dubose, Barry Patton, and Rusty Thoms. We also talked with former Washington coach Ken Knutson and Washington CF Chris Magruder.
Magruder had an unreal tournament, going 13-21 at the plate and was pretty much a machine. He called the weekend in Starkville “the weekend that changed my life”, and “his greatest baseball experience”. And he spent 5 years in the big leagues. Dubose threw two complete games in the tournament. Rusty hit over .400. Barry had the game winning hit. Brooks Bryan robbed the home run. Fun memories.
