Inciting military mutiny is a serious federal crime under U.S. law, primarily addressed by 10 U.S. Code § 894 (Article 94 of the UCMJ), which punishes those who create violence or disturbances with intent to usurp authority, and by 18 U.S. Code § 2387/2388, criminalizing the distribution of materials urging insubordination or disloyalty, carrying severe penalties like imprisonment and fines, especially during wartime.
Key Federal Laws:
  • 10 U.S.C. § 894 (UCMJ Article 94 - Mutiny or Sedition):
    • Punishes any person subject to military law who joins with others to refuse orders, create violence, or overthrow authority.
    • Applies to actual mutiny, attempted mutiny, sedition, and failing to suppress or report it, with punishments up to death.
  • 18 U.S.C. § 2387 (Activities Affecting Armed Forces Generally):
    • Prohibits distributing written material that counsels insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty.
    • Penalties include fines, up to 10 years in prison, and potential loss of federal employment.
  • 18 U.S.C. § 2388 (Activities Affecting Armed Forces During War):
    • A wartime version of the above, making it a crime to cause insubordination, disloyalty, or mutiny, promoting enemies' success.
  • 18 U.S.C. § 2383 (Rebellion or Insurrection):
    • Makes it illegal to incite, assist, or engage in any rebellion or insurrection against U.S. authority.
Key Concepts:
  • Mutiny: Concerted refusal of obedience or opposition to lawful military authority.
  • Sedition: Creating revolt or disturbance against lawful civil authority with intent to destroy it.
Penalties:
  • These offenses are serious, leading to federal prosecution, significant prison time (up to 10 years or more), fines, and potential disqualification from government employment.
In essence, federal law strictly prohibits any action or communication that encourages military personnel to defy orders or rebel, treating it as a severe threat to national security, with specific provisions for peacetime and wartime scenarios.

I'm perfectly fine with that. Their actions could get people killed or confused troops thrown in the Brig.

The video, which was posted on Tuesday by Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., has drawn the ire of Republicans and the Trump administration. The Democrats in the video include Slotkin, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz.,; Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa.,; Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H.,; Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo. All the lawmakers in the video highlighted their former service in the military and intelligence community.

The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and disturbed by this attack. There will be very serious retaliation." GREAT. Now would be a good time for him to prove he wants a new path or find someone who can deal with it better.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, currently the interim President of Syria, was a prominent jihadist figure in Iraq who had links to the predecessors of ISIS but eventually broke away from both ISIS and al-Qaeda.
His relationship with these groups includes:
  • Early Affiliation: In his early twenties, using the alias Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, al-Sharaa traveled to Iraq to fight American forces following the 2003 invasion. He pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), then led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
  • Imprisonment: He was arrested by American forces and detained in the notorious Camp Bucca prison in Iraq, a key recruiting ground for future jihadist leaders, including Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the future founder of ISIS.
  • Split from ISIS: After his release in 2011, he was backed by al-Baghdadi to establish a militant group in Syria to fight the Assad regime. This group, Jabhat al-Nusra, pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda's central leadership, but ultimately had a military turf war with al-Baghdadi's group, then known as the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI).
  • Break from Al-Qaeda: In 2016, al-Sharaa publicly renounced ties to al-Qaeda and rebranded his group (first as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, then as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or HTS), focusing on establishing governance in Idlib province rather than a global holy war.
  • Current Stance: Following the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024 and his rise to the presidency, al-Sharaa's government has joined the U.S.-led global coalition against ISIS, and has reportedly foiled ISIS assassination plots against him.
