A case for Mullen or Wilson.

Some people seem to think that we can't afford to take a chance on a coordinator at this point. While I would like to get PetersEn or Whittingham I feel OK with either Mullen or Wilson for the following reasons.

1. Both guys have been around two of the most successful coaches in the game for awhile. Mullen with Meyer since 99 at Notre Dame and Wilson with Stoops since 02 and prior to that was with Randy Walker from 90-01 at two schools.
2.Neither is very old.
3.Both offensive are explosive.
4. Both know how to compete in a tough conference.
5. Both know how to and how important getting big recruits is.
6. Both are used to winning.
7. I think in general with a coordinator there is a pretty high ceiling for success as opposed to a retread HC.
8. If it works out, both may be a little more loyal since we gave them their first crack at HC.
9. If it doesn't work out Byrne has showed he isn't afraid to make a change.
10. I trust GB's judgment.
11. I trust Bob Stoop's and Urban Meyer's judgment.
12. If we get them before the NC game we will get plenty of free advertisement on National television with lots of recruits watching.

on GB's list behind Petersen and Whittingham. I like Wilson a little more than Mullen because he has been in a BCS conference a little longer than Mullen. I think he would be a great hire. I stated this in the chat room last night. I have a client that is good friends with Bob Stoops and Bo Pelini. He is big OU fan and has talked to Wilson a couple of times. I asked him yesterday that Wilson name was being throw around here and I asked him if he thought Wilson would be interested in the job. My client said yes he thought wilson would consider it. So just to state. THIS IS NOT A RUMOR just an opinion.

I would be satisfied with either one. I trust Byrne's judgement here, even if the Petersen thing ultimately doesn't pan out.

What you mean is you trust Byrne's judgement if he hires someone you approve of. Otherwise, you are, and I quote, "done with MSU football forever." Do us a favor and quit now. We don't need fans like you anyway.

I mean exactly what I say. I trust Byrne won't make a terrible hire, like Dooley or Bowden. If you want to support that cluster-17 of a move, go right ahead. And if it does, Greg Byrne loses all respect from me as well. Templedick would make a hire like that. And if that jackass was still calling the shots, you and everyone else would be resigned to the fact we would hire a limpdick like Bowden. New regime in Starkville, and I am confident we won't make a mistake like that.

Peterson, Wilson, Mullen, Veneables - OK

Bowden, Fulmer, Koetter, Dooley - done forever

Graham? Tuberville? Holtz?

is that you'll be happy no matter who we hire and for some reason I'm not entitled to be pissed if we hire somebody I think would only be a slight improvement from Croom (because there really can't be anything worse.) And I've seen you post enough to know that isn't true. Aren't there some names out there that would totally piss you off? The names that would piss me off (and a lot of other folks too, according to the posts I've seen) are probably far down the list and I'm not concerned we'll get to that point.

and come in just spinning the wheels unless the program is rock solid which we obviously are anything but.

17 a OC and a DC. Hire one and no tickets for me until they prove they can win the SEC west.

Fulmer is the only one for me of the names that have floated. OK, thats not true. A bunch of the names on the Lake like Bobby Hall and Steve Campbell would piss me off too. But the rest of these guys are so far ahead of Croom that if Byrne and Neinas decide that (fill in the blank) is the right guy for the job, then I am all for that person. Graham, Dooley, Tuberville, Wilson, Peterson, Bowden.....I have different levels of giddiness about each of them, but after living in football hell for 7 out of the last 8 years, I am willing to give any of them the benefit of the doubt because, and this is key, THE PROCESS by which this coach will be selected will be a much better process. If we go through all of that and Dooley emerges, then so be it. I don't see how State fans can vow to disown the program when we are running an actual search for a coach.
