I'm pretty sure that was the plan. Merge with KSR to increase the number of users, axe all of the forums, and condense everyone into one forum. Then put up a paywall, where Jones gets a cut from On3. Then he and Rowland post, and make it sound like they did us all a favor.

There are a bazillion free message boards out there. This is one of the few that still tries to charge money for it. Like it's the year 2000 and there are no other options.
Rivals/247/On3 has figured out how to monetize fan forums - hence no free forums. Surprised they allowed this one to stay around.

"Likely", is the key word here. This is speculation because you probably don't like KSR/Matt Jones. There is no evidence right now to suggest that Rupp's Rafter's will be nothing more than a free forum. It just happens its now consolidated with other forums from Cat's Illustrated.
This is the problem with society now. They blame and accuse and think their speculation is 'fact'. If this does happen and Rupp's Rafter's does indeed no longer become a free forum, then, yes, I would agree with you, that everyone has the right to b!tch.

I actually paid for this site way back when most everything was free, but no way today. If yo ucan't generate your own revenue without the subscription model you don't really deserve to exist, imho, and likely won't for long. The niche you carved out for yourself is temporary when/if you don't provide something substantive for free which gets eyeballs on you.
Because the cost of doing it was just so high… it’s not feasible to have 2 free message boards.

The Catspaw was once a VERY vibrant community, would have something like 20,000 SIMULTANEOUS UNIQUE viewers during it's peak, like during final four games, etc, and like two thousand at any random moment of the day. It's a shadow of its former self and has been for a long while, nothing's gonna change that. People should understand that opinions and facts are two different things, obviously.
If someone ever tells you that something is likely to happen in the future, something for which they have absolutely no control over, then that is an opinion, not a fact.
Put up a question asking whether or not Pope will get a third year and then read the responses. You’ll very quickly realize most of the fanbase cannot discern opinion/fact or preference/reality.

But I don't see how that costs much more? These forums ideally should be hosted somewhere, and aside from some database and UI maintenance, it really shouldn't be a big deal. It's not like the mods are really watching things. So from a manpower standpoint, there really shouldn't be anything else needed to have an additional free board.
However, there could be costs for computer and storage. I imagine the Paddock forum has at least several TBs of database storage for all the historical threads/topics.
I’d be much more inclined to pay a subscription to keep the Paddock as it was before all of the changes this past year.
