Too many people here are siding directly with one mindset or another. It's never black-and-white in baseball. The answer isn't as simple as it first appears. So, here's the reports on the teams. You decide:

First agenda: Samford. They are one of the best hitting teams in all of CBB. Out of 297 teams:
9th in Slugging
8th in OPS
7th in AB
6th in Runs
5th in Hits
6th in HR
6th in RBI
3rd in Total Bases
They have 3 guys that are legit HR threats. Brandon Miller leads the entire country with 22 bombs.

They have 2 legit starting pitching threats and a couple of good relievers/midweek guys. The 2 starters are:
Josh Martin 2.96ERA 12-1 103.1ip 104h 34er 30bb 90k 23doubles 4triples 4hr .259baa
Charles Basford 3.95ERA 9-2 98.0ip 101h 43er 26bb 54k 25doubles 1triple 5hr .262baa

Of their primary contributors, they have 4 seniors, 3 juniors, 2 sophs...the 2 ace starters are both seniors. This is a very experienced ball club. We can not take them lightly in any phase. Their friday night guy has given up 8 ER in his last 33.2ip(2.17ERA) and is 5-0 in that timeframe. They are a confident team with him on the hill. Beat Oklahoma just over a week ago 4-2.

FSU is a mediocre offensive club, that uses the same offensive philosophy that we do. They put a ton of pressure on pitchers and get on base alot by walks/hbp. They are middle-of-the-pack overall in the ACC in hitting, pitching, and defense, and are overpowering at nothing. That means that they are a savvy team that just knows how to win games.

Their rank in the ACC(stuff worth noting):
1st OBP
3rd Runs
3rd 2b's
1st Walks(By a Mile)
2nd HBP
1st Grounded Into Double Plays, by 20+ percent. They may lead the country in this. BIG + for us.

They have 3 excellent hitters. These 3 have provided over 40% of their entire offensive production on the year. Get them out and they don't have much else to beat you. They are:
Jayce Boyd.......... .395 57-57 220ab 40r 87h 20doubles 3hr 55rbi 31bb
James Ramsey...... .382 58-58 199ab 69r 76h 10doubles 12hr 49rbi 53bb
Devon Travis........ .316 58-57 231ab 53r 73h 22doubles 5hr 34rbi 23bb

On the mound:
#1 in hit batters allowed, with only 35.
#6 in walks allowed
This tells that they pitch almost exclusively on the outside half. That's a drastic difference.
They don't give up many doubles, but give up a ton of homers. This is a tale that their gaps are small and their outfielders are very athletic.

They are led by 2 very good starters and a lights-out closer on the hill:
Robert Benincasa.... 1.36 4-1 27app 13sv 33.0ip 20h 5er 5bb 47k
Mike Compton........ 2.88 10-2 15app 0sv 75.0ip 67h 24er 26bb 52k
Brandon Leibrandt... 2.91 6-2 15app 0sv 80.1ip 71h 26er 25bb 64k
Neither starter is a tremendous strikeout pitcher, but they also don't give up a ton of hits. The closer is the one that will strike you out. Unreal k/bb ratio for him. Hopefully we do not see him.

More to come, but taking a break

Plays in the field, steals bases, hits pretty good, and closes.

Hope we don't hear his name much.
