Since the "who should we hire" threads have been discussed ad nauseum...

Who are your favorite coaches (top 5) that you pull for when they aren't playing State or another team you have ties to & why? This IS NOT "who do you want our next coach to be." For this, you have to take State out of the SECW and assume they are DIV3 (not too hard right now) so that you aren't biased about it.

Mine:
1. Ed Orgeron - Wild Boyz! - This guy has his dream job and is happier than a mule eating briars. Sounds like it, too. He may be a better delegator than X's & O's guy, but he has gotten it done at USC when he took over as interim HC and also at LSU as interim HC. As big of a mistake as we all thought they were making, he has been a good hire for them. You can't ignore when he's interviewed or gives a press conference. His Rogers-Dabbs Hummer commercial will always be funny. His LLC is the "Rosy Finch Boyz." His Ole Miss HC record was 3-8 (1-7), 4-8 (2-6), 3-9 (0-8.) for a final total of 10-25 (3-21 SEC). Much like the situation we are in now, The Sharts had their opportunity to put their foot on our throat while we were Crooming and Coach O came along. I would love to see him win the Natty this year just to see Nafoom and The Spirit blow up over letting him go.

2. Les Miles - The Mad Hatter. The Connoisseur of SEC Turf. He's another one that's hard for me to pull against. He was so predictably unpredictable. Games that they were seemingly out of, he would pull something out of his magic hat. Trick plays. Crazy play calls that only worked for him. And when they had a game in hand, he would make a bone headed call that left you wondering if he was all there.

3. Mike Leach - The Pirate. He's not politically correct. He doesn't care what you or "your fat, little girlfriends" think. He was born about 40 years late.

4. Lane Kiffin - Mr. Joey Freshwater - Twitter Troll. How he didn't wind up at Ole Miss is beyond me. He really is cut from their cloth. He got his (first few) jobs because of his Diddy. His first recruiting video from FAU that sounded like a hostage video was hilarious. There must be a lot of trim getting thrown his way in Boca Raton. He seems content there instead of looking for his first ticket out. He's put on some weight, too. I still find myself rooting for him just because of how pissed off he left TN in the middle of the night (and it was a crappy thing for him to do, but USCw was probably his dream job, so I get it.)

5. David Cutcliff - Ole Miss should've kept him. Thankfully, they didn't. However, with the new rules, paying players becoming legal and all......will they go back to the well when they fire Luke? He has won consistently at Duke for all these years.....Duke. In football. I don't know that he would go back. He can retire at Duke with low stress. He seems to be a genuinely good guy and after the debacle of a time with O and Nutt, it shows how much they screwed up.

Now who do you despise?

Mine:
1. Tommy Tubberville - While he would fit with O & Cutcliff as former Ole Miss coaches who were successful post Oxford, I can't stand him. He's a snake. Fit in at Ole Miss and Auburn perfectly. If I shook his hand, I'd check to make sure I had all my fingers when I was done.

2. Bret Bielema - He looked like he sweated rancid bacon grease. He was the composite sketch you would get if we all described Arkansas fans to a police sketch artist.

3. Croom - I didn't despise him until he trashed us on the 30 for 30 or whatever the ESPN show was. We gave him a shot, allowed him to hire his buddies, and dismantle the program. And then he is too proud to be able to look in the camera and say, "I didn't have what it took to coach in the SEC."

4. Bobby Petrino - All of the jumping around he did before going to Arkansas showed his character. He is a greasy sleezeball.

5. Hugh Freeze - Nothing needs to be said.

I pull for:
1) Hugh Freeze and Matt Luke (only to win a few games so he has to stay) - make Ole Miss fans heads explode
2) Ed Orgeron/Kirby Smart/Dabo Swinney - because I like to see Alabama (and now Florida) lose
3) Mark Hudspeth, Manny Diaz and Geoff Collins - just because

I pull against:
1) Dan Mullen - better he does at Florida, the worse we look
2) Lincoln Riley - I hate this move to 'innovative' young offensive guys who wear long sleeve dri-fit shirts
3) Chad Morris - he is just a squirrel looking guy who gets on my nerves

That's a good list and I pretty much agree with you on all accounts, except I'm not all that crazy about Kiffin. I think I'd move him down to your "dislike" list.

Bonus on Tuberville: He's running for US Senate in Alabama and sounds like a dumb17 whenever he talks about anything political (it has nothing to do with conservative vs. liberal. He just sounds dumb). Naturally, he's in the lead.

I'm on the fence on Miles. He seems likeable and genuine, but he was pretty ****** to some of his players that were good people while also enabling some pretty horrible human beings. And when he didn't really need to b/c he could have replaced them with as good or better talent. Also it's still inexplicable to me that he was dead set on running a Big10 type offense but was enamored with QB's that could run over QB's that could make good decisions. What the 17 was that about?

Lane Kiffin is my Donald Trump. I wouldn’t want him to date my daughter. He’s probably the biggest jerk you ever met. He is a lot of talk. And I imagine he pisses off all the other coaches. He’s not your typical coach speak guy. I like seeing him successful at FAU for the comedic value. Knowing he screwed up and lost a good job because he went for quick greener pastures and is having to settle for FAU. It’s good medicine for him.

For:
1. Will Muschamp- Just absolutely love Coach Boom. The guy sticks up for his players, but will chew their *** out in a heartbeat. He also just doesn't look like he gives a 17 what anyone thinks about him. Someone comfortable in their own skin is a coach that's easy to root for.
2. David Cutcliffe- I still think it's beyond laughable that OM let him go. He's consistently proven he's one of the best offensive minds in all of football.
3. Lane Kiffin- Just love his "I don't give a 17 attitude" when it comes to basically anything. He lays it all out on the table and lets the chips fall where they may. Hell he took a bad Tennessee team into Bama and damn near beat them if not for Mt. Cody. Have always thought a lot of Lane and think he's learned a lot since SC.
4. PJ Fleck- He's a ball of energy and he backs up all the Row The Boat stuff. Seems he always instills a culture immediately no matter where he goes. Also like his pregame speeches.
5. Pat Fitzgerald- He has severe recruiting limitations at Northwestern and never complains or bitches about it. He just keeps coaching his teams the same way and they always seem to shock a few people every year.

Against:
1. Hugh Freeze- Snake Oil Salesman.
2. Jimbo Fisher- Has always rubbed me the wrong way. Seems to always be complaining about something and trying to find an excuse for his bad coaching.
3. Chad Morris- I just don't feel like he's a good coach. He never won big at SMU and I feel like people praise him for what an amazing job he did there. Also seems to always be throwing his players under the bus to cover up the fact that he has no clue what he's doing.

Pull for:
Mike Leach - best press conferences
Matt Campbell - surprisingly committed to Iowa State, seems like a solid guy trying to build at a program with even less historical success that MSU
Pat Fitzgerald - commitment to his alma mater and his single-minded archaic approach to football

Not a fan:
Freezus - for obvious reasons
Tom Herman - he seems like an overrated tool (a perfect fit for Texas, I guess)
Dabo - seems like a more effective version of Freeze

Wouldn’t say I pull for them, but fun to have around: Kiffin, Harbaugh, Bert

This is opinion thread and I absolutely am not criticizing your opinion, but I'm just curious how you came to form this one. Muschump looks like a cokehead on a 10-day bender to me. It's like his coaching style is controlled chaos.

I don't see how Dan doing well at UF makes us look bad. If anything his success at UF makes us look good because it shows that a talented coach can be successful and happy at State. He stayed here 9 years which does not exactly make him a stone stepper. The only thing that even remotely makes us look bad is that we couldn't keep him but understandable because he left for a more prosperous program. Folks in virtually every profession do it all the time. Its a very American thing to do. What makes us look bad is not being able to build on his success.

I think the vast majority of OM fans are enjoying seeing Orgeron succeed, too. For the same reasons you laid out. You can’t help but like the 2019 version of Coach O. Most rational fans realize that it’s not his fault an incompetent administration hired him for a job he had no business having.

I’d love to see him win a national title this year. Well, except for the fact that they’re our real rival and all******

Because it makes our job look harder. Thus coaches are more reluctant to come. Rocket science.

There are plenty of coaches that I despise, and pull against almost all of the time. There are very few who I like so much that I like to see them win...

Current coaches I despise:

1. Saban
2. Kiffen
3. Malzahn
4. Harbaugh
5. Freeze
6. The Kellys (Brian and Chip)
7. Leach

I don't despise Mullen, but I do enjoy it when he loses. I think he is terribly overpaid at UF, and since I like being right about things, I like for him to lose. That said, I think he will average 10 wins a year though, so I don't expect to see him lose very often.

Coaches I like to see win....

1. Cutcliffe
2. Les Miles
3. Franklin (even though its impossible to like Penn State)
