The numbers still support that healthy young people are LESS likely to die from Coronavirus than influenza. Pre-existing lung disease, elderly, immunocompromised including well controlled diabetes, and obesity makes it MORE deadly than the flu. The data is still out on permanent morbidity as some young people may have long term lung damage despite recovering. Obviously this may or may not be permanent as only time will tell.
Sweden has taken the approach of sequestering just the vulnerable and letting the younger folks go about business as usual. They have not faired any worse than most. I'm all for keeping sports and concerts shutdown because of risk benefit ratio being more in favor of risk. However, concerning other sectors of the economy and people's livelihood the benefits may outweigh the risks for the low risk population. We do lack a vaccine, but if a majority have no to only cold like symptoms, them getting infected and developing that immunity can happen faster than just waiting for a vaccine.
Bottomline is we don't know everything. The data does suggest a wide range of possibilities. Sure some are whack jobs, but those noting that a months on end shutdown which leads to a possible depression could have a larger human cost than the virus itself are not completely off base.
So this new argument about covid 19 usually seems to boil down to two positions for the "know everything because I googled it types." If the virus kills less than the predicted amount of folks...say 120,000 then that's proof it was over stated and all the policies put into place to mitigate it weren't needed. Or, if more than predicted die well of course that proves not enough was done early enough! Stupid. Dumbass arguments. It is lives we're dealing with...take no chances and stop whining weenies.
