Keenum hates LT worse than any of us, and vice versa. And yes, Keenum has the policy that if you are interim, you will not be thepermanentchoice. I could see Mike Nemeth being the interim....or Glenn Steele (inside joke for those who work on campus).

with Stricklin being the internal candidate. Joe Dean, Jr. will throw his name in the ring but won't get any consideration.

Stricklin - ninja in training
Dean - poor man's Larry Templeton

Not saying it will happen - but a possibility is to move the department under Dr. Kibler

Unless he can just wow MK, I don't see him getting the position.

would be an LT-type?

I would think that as someone who has played college sports, he would be a quality candidate

Well hell, lets get Pig Prather then.

My point is that Byrne created the idea that the little guy is extremely important, and did all he could to reach out to them with new streams of marketing and showing off the program in ways that hadn't been done before. I think the new progressive way of thinking within the AD is vital for a school such as MSU.

Joe Dean Jr is ADing at BSC and doing color commentary for Raycom/SEC network while Stricklin has been shadowing GB. Now I'm not saying I'm pro-Stricklin or any candidate at this point, but I am saying that Joe Dean Jr doesn't seem to fit the new direction our Athletic Dept has been taking the past 2 years, to me.

why does he appear to be an LT-type? He is at a smaller school that probably doesnt require half the attention our athletic programs do- thus the basketball announcer position.

I don't think you have to tweet or answer every email to be a good AD- but I did like that about Byrne. Jeremy Foley is a pretty damn good AD, and I doubt he answers every email he gets...

I'm just not seeing how you are JDJ is an LT-type guy

of implementing or designing the type of marketing campaigns that Byrne during his stay @ MSU ? The ability to generate new revenue streams while widening existing streams is critical.

Does JDJ have a history/resume demonstrating such ability?

My concern about hiring a guy that's too old (whatever that means) is a possible lack ofdesire to learn new "stuff", or a hesitancy to push the envelope.

I should know this, but....remind me who Scott Stricklin is. Is that the guy with Byrne's old BC job?

This may or may not have been due to his error but I know that decision was not made because they had increasing revenues coming in. On his defense, it is hard to make it without football.</p>

He got stabbed in the back by the BSC President, and I think it was a result of the HealthSouth/Scrushi (sp?) fiasco that went down a few years ago. Scrushi was a major donor to BSC i.e. Bernie Ebbers and MC.

That was part of it. The otherpart was the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. Alabama colleges each have their own board and the ones on the Tuscaloosa board didn't want UAB getting any more money for growth of any kind. Basically dirty politics between the schools.

I'm not saying I support him as a candidate, but he will not be another Templeton. Bsc at least had a solid baseball team back when they were D1.

Birmingham-Southern's coach was Brian Shoop who is now at UAB. Guess who else is at UAB? Hint: He got punched in the stomach by the Ninja.

That and I think that Reboul guy was/is their basketball coach, and rumor was LT wanted him over Stansbury. Maybe these two coaches explain the "poor man's LT" rationale.

It was entirely the president of BSC who downgraded to D3. As a matter of fact, because of the speed they downgraded, the NCAA punished them and they are not eligible for any championships. The president is a militaryofficer from Canada who doesn't care for athletics at all.

Old-guard ADs: old, retired players or coaches
New-guard ADs: young, business minded people who went to college and trained specifically to be an AD, and knows the ins and outs of marketing, promotion, etc.

Somehow, LT was neither.

I was listening to talk radio the other day, and they mentioned that some of the biggest schools out there are now hiring CEO types and not necessarily old athletes.....referring to Oregon who has Phil Knight willing to pay up to 3mil for a new AD and he wants that position appointed....mentioned Michigan is another one.....cant remember, but there were several others, and they were big time BSC schools, and in the past few years...

..it's the same reason that when UAB was looking for a new head football coach, you didn't see them go out and hire a new dynamic coach that migh upset the balance. The board at UA is the same one that controls UAB, so they shot down any plan that might take more money away from Bama.
