A few parting words

Gents --

Just a couple of random thoughts and I'll be on my way.

First and foremost, THANK YOU to all the posters who offered advice and helpful suggestions, both in threads and on PM. Between the burgers and beer at Mugshot's and the lazy Sunday afternoon in a La-Z-Boy at the Alumni House in Jackson, you guys definitely steered me and my crew in the right direction at every turn. In fact, we enjoyed Mugshot's so much, we ended up at the Flowood location for dinner on Sunday. The peanut butter burger is... interesting.

On the game, I just flew back into Houston this morning and haven't watched the replay. But good Lord, y'all would be a handful with a real, live D-I quarterback. But y'all shouldn't think that y'all *have* to get a four-star recruit. You know how many scholarship offers Case Keenum had coming out of high school?

One.

Otherwise, what y'all saw is pretty much how we beat OSU and Tech - run up a bunch of yards and points, and get some timely turnovers on defense. I know y'all are bitching about the officiating, but let me tell you one thing - C-USA refs are too incompetent to put together an organized effort to screw anybody. Wish I had a dollar for every bone-headed officiating decision that screwed us over the past ten years. Either way, if your QB hadn't gift-wrapped three turnovers for us, the officiating wouldn't have mattered.

Finally, we're already hearing that MSU is looking to buy out next year's return game at UH. Hope that doesn't happen, but everybody knows how that deal works.

Anyway, best of luck the rest of the year. Y'all really are getting things on the right track, even if the results don't yet show it. Thanks again, all.

that a private group is looking to buy out the home part of the game and have Houston play a "home" game in Jackson.

I hope we never play you again.

So, basically, you're saying that you beat OSU and TT because the officials gave you the game?

When you have a team with two penalties the entire time, and then literally every other penalty came at a key time for MSU, it's really hard to defend the refs.

If you're a non-BCS school and you want people to actually respect your teams, beat them straight up without officiating help. **** like what happened Sat. is another reason people think your conference is a joke.

Knowing my luck, you douchebags will end up playing Ole Miss in the Liberty Bowl and force me to side with Ole Miss for the first time ever in my life.

Piss off.

You act like this guy was one of the officials

and the officials were amazingly bad. One guy from uab punched another player in the face and didn't get a foul called on him.

And very glad you enjoyed Alumni House in Ridgeland (a friend of mine is a part owner). You're right about the officials. The illegal forward pass call was about as bad as it gets, but when you turn the ball over 4 times (none of which was forced), you can't ***** about the officiating. As for us buying out of the return game, I haven't heard anything about that. But we all have heard that a group is trying to buy an oppnenet's home game and move it to Jackson.

like to be able to judge the progress by playing some of the teams we had close losses to this year.

Thanks for the comments, I just hope for your sake you didn't hit on Patdog's favorite waitress while you were at AH.

Well not that it mattered this year... but we got one in the last class. He is just sporting the red shirt. That's one reason for some of the optimism around here.

a very close game, not the turnovers. I say that because MSU had 4 turnovers while Houston had 2 turnovers (one a pick 6 and another that stopped a drive basically at the goal line) PLUS a blocked FG and a failed 4th down conversion early in the game that were both essentially equal to turnovers. State also had a failed 4th down conversion but since that was on a blown call that took what would have likely ended up being seven points for us and gave the possession to Houston that was on the refs, not our players. So really mistakes and turnovers were fairly even in the game by the two teams. The removal of a 1st and goal at the 4 and the bogus holding call on Dixon's TD that was called back were the true difference in the outcome of the game.

One.

We have signed, played, and started QBs for the last 6-7 years that had no scholarship offers. Besides, we don't develop QBs at State. We ruin them and boo them by their senior season. That is just the way it has always been in Starkville.

we're already hearing that MSU is looking to buy out next year's return game at UH.

Dear Lord, let that happen! If I remember right, State is now 1-7 vs Houston since the 74-0 game in the early 70s. No sense in making it 1-8.

that game is usually between 2 teams that will sell lots of tickets. u of h fans won't travel that well whether the game is in nola or jackson. more state fans would come to a game in jackson as opposed to nola.

now, if we were playing a bcs school, that could be an option. arkansas-texas a&m in dallas is the same type deal.

Game in New Orleans:
10K MSU fans
3K UH fans

Game in Jackson:
40K MSU fans
1K UH fans

Mind you, that's not a slight towards UH. New Orleans is 350 miles from Houston and we're just not an interesting enough program to play for many of them to travel.
