The first half was like a damn Benny Hill skit, with the circus music playing in the background. McAdams' ****-tastic punts, the miscommunications on O for both teams, and the general shittyness was painful to watch. And, Vandy going down and scoring just before the half was vintage M-State. I thought it was over then and there.
Tyson Lee, you're a quick little bastard. Vandy's D-line never adjusted. They were over-committing every time and you made smart decisions to take off and run, a lot of times for 3rd down conversions. Those were refreshing to see. That damn announcer said "Huge play coming up" about 500 times.
Vandy's defense is slow. They don't seem to have a single playmaker on D. It's amazing they've won 5 so far. Bobby Johnson coached a Croom-esque game today. He stubbornly stayed with Nickson for 3 quarters when it was obvious that he was ineffective. They had possession with about 5:00 left in the game, and passed on 1st and 2nd down with decent field position. That was dumb. But, kudos to Cheese for dropping the linebackers back into coverage on that possession instead of trying to bring pressure. It worked. Credit to Harbison. The D-Line also played pretty well. That's the first I've seen them get decent pressure on any QB all season. Croom keeps waiting on a pick-6, well there you go, it's because we don't have a great DE like Titus to force QB pressure and bad throws which lead to pick-6s. The two INT's by Vandy late were a combo of dropping the LB's into coverage and the D-line applying some pressure. Vandy's O-line sucks.
Credit to Croom/Woody for getting McRae the ball early. He's a playmaker, and good **** seems to happen when he gets the ball. Brignone, you still suck at shotgun snaps. Dixon finally looked decent today, and I hope to hell he's finally figured out that running forward and falling forward will get him more yards.
Even though we just beat a ****** overrated team, it was a good win and a solid effort. Given Croom's post-bye week shittyness, it was surprising.
