Summer of 2022, I was at a big family reunion on my wife's side. Also there was Grant Leonard, a college basketball coach who had just been hired to lead Queens University into its transition to D1(ASUN Conference). Grant was a talkative douche canoe that was overly confident and drinking only amplified that.
So he and I sat and talked college basketball for a long time since its my favorite sport and it game him an opportunity to talk a lot.
Somehow Grant knew Jans- maybe from camps or just the recruiting trail?...dont remember.
Grant continually said that hiring Jans was a huge risk that would either pay off big or blow up big. He said Jans loves to take on high risk players and that is how he had success at New Mexico State, but that approach wouldnt work at Mississippi State and the SEC.
As of now, Jans' players at MSU havent really been known problems(legal or academic). But maybe he hasnt been able to bring in the type of players he had success with because MSU isnt willing to take on that type of player. Total wildass guess.
