A little help understanding basketball recruiting

So, its signing period right now. I'm assuming the kids signing have already been recuited throughout the year and pretty much know where they're headed. Is State and Coach Ray at this point just out picking up leftovers or trying to convince recurits to consider us rather than sign with a school that's been recruiting them all year?

Don't we need some signees just to put a team on the floor next year?

About the best we an get at this point is JUCO or leftover HS recruits. I would hope Ray wouldn't use more than 2-3 scholarships this year. That will give him another 2-3 to work with next year.

It will give us some more bodies to use with the freshman, and will only tie up a scholly for 2 years so we don't end up with a class of 8 graduating seniors in 4 years. I'd also like him to save at least a couple for next year.
