however, I think he made a major mistake in raising Croom's salary to $1.7mm. Seems he did this just to keep up with the Jones' instead of doing the financially prudent thing. He still could have rewarded Croom with a healthy raise, just not this healthy. If Croom followed up with another good year in 2008, then give him another raise. If this year sucks, what does he do? Seems like Byrne has backed himself into a corner on this one.

As much as I like Byrne and am overall pleased with the job he's done, he should have raised Croom only to about $1.4M and given him only a 1-year extension. And he should have absolutely put his foot down and refused to give McCorvey a 2-year contract.
