A major problem

A major problem with a lot of programs, both football and basketball, are the friendships the coaches develop over the years with players they've coached or coached with. We saw this when Tubby was at UK, and hired an ex Alabama coach, and a former UK player. When he was told to make changes to his assistants, he hired a new strength coach. That was not what the AD meant, and Tubby knew it.
Today, with the big salaries Assistants are paid, the HC doesn't mind having the AD spend the money, especially since it's not his "Piggy Bank." There were some good coaches on Joker's staff, especially the OL and DL coaches, but Stoops brought in his friends, who were not as good and did not have that much experience, and we have been seeing the results. Eliot being one of them. Stoops didn't really want Neal Brown, but Brown was pushed on him. He sure didn't want Dawson, and that was noticeable to most UK fans. Constant turmoil! He wanted and got his good friend Gran, and Gran brought his good friend Hinshaw with him.
Most Power 5 coaches will make more in one year, then the average family will make in a lifetime, and if you can get the big buyout, which is not tied to performance, like Stoops has, there is not a lot of pressure to perform, such as getting rid of your incompetent coach who is your friend, and hiring someone who is good.
We have some really good players at UK, but evidently we don't have the coaches who can coach them up. ALL the star rating are not wrong.
At UK, at the present time, we have the "Tail wagging the dog".

But this happens in every new hire. Coaches bring in people who they are comfortable with and worked with over their career. Hardly anyone retains anyone from the old staff and for good reasons. The only coach I remember at UK being retained was the one who recruited Louisville so well but I can't remember his name.

The best head coach's in sport are type A personalities, And the "A" stands for A&&hole. look at belicheck, Saban, Rupp, The reason those people win is because they would do WHATEVER it takes to win. If it means firing their whole staff to hire another, they would do it

Somebody mentioned Nord, but could it be Bill Glaser?

That is your opinion which I respect. However, not a single soul on this message board knows anything for certain about coaching hires and player development. It is all speculation and innuendo from individuals who generally want instant gratification from a head coach. We aren't going down the road of Mike Leach, Bobby Petrino or Art Briles. Regardless of the screaming and yelling about coaches, what you see is what you'll get from our AD and current head coach.

Schlarman, Brumbaugh, Eliot and Clinkscale (yes I know he's new but our DB's have regressed big time this year) need to go. The rest are solid.
