a question on jarvis varnado..........

i bleive i spelled his name correctly and i would pronounce it vaR na do. but it seems to me i hear it pronounced va naR do.......realizing that with one's proper name one can write "smith" and tell folks its "jones"......i'm confused. is it the spelling that's off or does the preferred pronunciation just not match the spelling?
