b/c I didn't play, but I never understood how Nutt got to be such a "Big" name in college football, relatively speaking.

I think matt jones was the qb too.He was a good college player and if he could have left the booger sugar alone he still might be a nfl wr. With all that talent that record sucks, in regards to nutt.

Arkansas fans don't recognize a need for defense. If you have good offensive players, you should be good.

They were really good in 2006, lost 4 games to teams that combined to lose only 6 total games between the 4 of them (all Top 5 in the final polls).

They took a step back in 2007 because their defense got worse despite their offense getting better.

Likewise, they think that Petrino's offense is the sole reason they were good this past year. The difference between their Liberty Bowl year and their Sugar Bowl year is that they returned almost all of their defense, and their defense was a lot better.

It's stupid fans that have never played football who get excited about glitzly offensive skill position players and forget the rest of the team. State won 9 games this past year not because you had Chad Bumphis or Chris Relf but because your defense was good and your offense was good enough.

We had Eli Manning for 3 years as a starter, and his best season was a season where we lost 3 games because we had shoddy defense and questionable OL play most of his seasons. You list 3 offensive skill position players and say, damn that team should've won a national title. It takes a whole lot more than 3 really good players in the SEC. Alabama lost 3 SEC games this past year with 3 first round draft picks on their team AND Nick Saban as a head coach. That would really blow an Arkansas fan's mind.

They really believe that they should be considered top of the SEC with the Bamas and LSUs. They hate Nutt, and think Petrino will lead them to the promised land.

Let me clarify that I don't think Nutt is an elite coach, but I don't think there are many coaches, if any, that would've taken Arkansas's 2006 or 2007 team to a national title, or even an SEC title. They just weren't deep enough or strong enough at enough positions.

That may be his fault too depending on how much you blame recruiting on the head coach versus the job, but they were more talented than maybe one of the teams that beat them in 2006 (Wisconsin).
