A State buddy of mine called yesterday to place a bet on our game Saturday

He kind of caught me by surprise. He put $5 on Ole Miss to win. Just about every MSU fan I know seems to be conceding the game Saturday. These are fans of a team that's 8-3, and I'm a fan of a team that's 5-6. And every one of them is confident we will win.

What the 17 is going on? Did I miss a meeting or memo on this?

Think you're missing the point. He's a MSU fan betting on MSU to lose. Just kind of shocked to see so little confidence in an 8-3 tam. Not a clue how the game's gonna turn out. I think it'll be a good one. I think we've got a shot, but wouldn't be surprised if MSU wins.

If I were a betting man, my money's on Ole Miss too. So what?

I don't think you're a better team, and I think we'll win again next year. Overall, I think we have a better football program than you. More potential as well. But under the circumstances, I think Ole Miss probably wins this game this particular weekend. Freeze's excitement and such will wear off eventually but as of now, he's got a nice aura going right now.

To be fair

it is going both ways for this game. As a degenerate with degenerate friends that go to OM, a popular practice is to bet on the opposite side.

A OM friend of mine is putting more than 5 dollars on State for the simple reasoning - IF OM beats State he doesn't mind losing money. If State wins then at least he got something out of it. I've done the same thing before.

It has nothing to do with conceding a game, it's about hedging your bets.

17 that..

If I were to bet I'd bet on us. That way the victory would taste even sweeter. If we lose I'm pissed no matter what

It's not really that complicated, troll.

OM is one win away from bowling, at home, haven't won in three years, and are playing hard for their opponents with an offense that may possibly be difficult for States defense to stop.

I really hope you're right, I really do. But I don't see what you're basing this off of except for just blind faith in Mullen.

FACTS:

- Ole Miss will PROBABLY play hard. I'm sure I'm convinced they will after the last 2 losses, but logic says they will be fired up for the obvious reasons.
- We haven't stopped that type of offense all year.
- Oxford, where we've traditionally had trouble beating them when they had a pulse, 2010 excluded.
- It's easy to see where our players might be complacent regarding Ole Miss.

So basically, we're going to have to out-talent them in my opinion. Show me reason why I shouldn't be concerned?

All the betting trends favor Ole Miss.

Any competent better will place a large bet on Ole Miss. They SHOULD win the game. If we win, it'll be an upset.

I don't know. Mullen tends to mentally dominate weaker minded girls basketball coaches.*

Everybody knows anything can happen in this game. Football is a realm of 1000 possibilities, Triple that in a rivalry game. Mullen has always been ultra prepared egg bowl week, and our team has (the last 3) been playing at a higher level than normal.

So you are a bookie and take $5 bets......

Please tell me you are still in High School..

Well the line has moved to -1.5 Bears.

I will probably bet on the Bears too. It's a win/win situation.
I bet against State last night in basketball and won BIG $$...
You have to learn to separate your betting from emotions and your biased or you will be broke in a hurry...

Can I put .50 cents on the Bama/Auburn under? I'm calling a cold stone lock on this one.

I'd like you to find something that tells me State fans are betting on Mississippi at a higher rate than us. And competent bettors lose their *** every week. There is nothing that says they SHOULD win the game.

How did Vegas do on the Vandy-Mississippi game? I'll hang up and listen

Nobody is saying you shouldn't be concerned and that it wont be a close game- but in the end we will win the game.

We should look at it as a shootout and try to score 50. I'd put it on our OL and QB and say "We need 50"...period.

bet with your pocket book, not your emotions.....I put $250 on Mississippi.

Good news is I'm playing with the house money after last weeks win over Arky.....but, there are no good signs showing this is a good game to bet on MSU.

It's called having the emotional age of a 12 year old.

There is a large portion of both fan bases that shudder at the thought of losing to their rival. They can't stand the thought of having to defend their team after a loss, so they will sandbag by acting as if they are certain of an upcoming loss. If their team loses, they can play it off with the "we suck, I told you we were going to lose" card.

Reality says this game is going to be close. Personally, I think MSU is the better team, but it's an away game and OM has a pesky offense that we tend to struggle with. Therefore, I think it will be close. The betting public agrees it seems. That said, anyone that has written off their team on either side of the rivalry is simply sandbagging so they don't have to answer for any of the **** talking they've done earlier in the year. Simple as that.

Troll on. Troll on? Jesus, I didn't offer the bet. An MSU fan did. I'm perplexed and trying to figure out why he has so little confidence in his team, and I'm a 17ing troll? Wow.

^^This^^ I was much more worried about Arkansas...

Mullen aint losing this year

Than this game. I just look at current season results along with how we've shown up to play each team in recent years. Even when we had less talent and nothing to gain, Mullen out game planned the bears. They plan for this game all year and you can bet you will see some "new" wrinkles in the game plan.

I've seen nothing that leads me to believe that Mullen won't have his Bulldog Steamroller out Saturday night. Hell our players were more pumped up about this game last week, than they were about playing Arkansas.

Plus the bears will be playing with so much pressure on their shoulders that they will blow their wad late in the 1st or early in the 2nd. Too much riding on this game for them and someone will crack early.

When you have to find him to pay him that 5 bucks. Tell him how much of a douche he is for telling people to sit down cause they can't see when they have the top 2 or 3 largest college football jumbotrons over their shoulder to watch the game. Also tell them there is a waiting list for tickets if 11:30 is too early and it's too late to get home after an 8:00 game. And if they don't have tickets.. Tell them it makes for a better crowd that they sit their dumbasses home.
