I've said from the beginning the stars are based on the schools that offer. Not by an evaluation of someone from the site.
But for some reason or another his recruiting class was always in the top five. So I guess the star ratings were somewhat agreeable regardless of whether or not he looked at the star rating.
They were based on him. If he or another blue blood touched them they were 5 stars. If stars touched them, automatic 3 max
I always look back at the Mullen years and how many of his recruits got into the NFL that stars are not always correct.
One year probably 12-15 years ago when I still followed recruiting, there were something like 2 or 3 2-stars signed in the entire SEC. Thats when I knew it was complete bs. Signing with an SEC school automatically put everyone at a minimum 3-star rating.
Just makes sense that the recruiting services feed the fan bases that are most engaged.
Nine times out of 10 some guy that never played a down that was more fan boy than anything else was assessing the stats that so many lived and died by. And I agree that some were based on offers alone. The proof is always in the pudding.
