A trip down (my poor) memory lane

When I was in school at MSU in the 60s and 70s one of the frat houses kept Bully. He had the run of the place, ate their burger leftovers, drank their leftover beer and enjoyed their second hand drug smoke. Sounds like a pretty good life for a dog doesn't it? The problem with that program was that about once a year, some other fraternity from some other university (Ole Miss comes to mind, but I wouldn't testify to that memory in court as I am suffering from progressigoldtimer's disease) would come onto campus and dognap Bully. Usually they'd keep him a few days and then tie him to a tree out in the woods and make a phone call to request a "Dog pick up". Everyone would get embarrised and life would go back to normal.

If my old fart memory is correct, one of thesedognappings eventually ended in Bully being painted (Crimson and Blue?) and it killed him (blew out his liver or kidneys and he didn't make it). At that point, the new Bully moved into the house with Dr. Zaccharias and family for a while and eventually wound up at the vet school, with the reasoning that it was insane to put him in a frat house and expect anything else to happen.

Am I as far away from reality as I am beginning tobelieve this story is headed? Anyone help my memory?

This was not posted to justify the guy who killed Toomer's tree ormy memory that someone ?shot the eagle? at USM with a bb-gun leading to his death (did I dream that up too?).

They would tell you that their vet school is better than MSU's.

Could work out well for them.

Not sure what USM will do.

I'm sure as hell not going to kidnap a dang bear. Would be hell to pay at my house if he destroyed our pik-a-nik basket.

I've heard that story about the Bully, but I have no knowledge if it's actually true or not. As far as the USM Eagle thing, you're close. The story is the bird was found dead. It was initially speculated that the bird had died from a BB gun wound. Upon autopsy, it was discovered the bird had starved to death. The guy who dressed in the Seymor Bird costume was responsible for feeding the real bird. Apparently he wasn't very good at this task and the bird starved to death. This is the reason that to this day, USM is not allowed to have a living Eagle.

Brent Fullwood was supposed to feed him on his way to class (or at least that's what some Alabama fan told me).

And they moved my room. How the hell will I be able to find the TV lounge and cafeteria form here?

Sorry -just practicing for the old folks home.

I guess I had heard that the eagle starved. At least there was a bb gun involved somehow.

And if memory serves me correctly, he did die as you say. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was Sigma Chi that used to keep Bully.

I'm glad I didn't say I thought it was SAE house. I know someone painted their concrete lions ten or twelve times a year back then. He was a good dog and didn't deserve to die. To kidnap Col Rebel back then would have required breaking into the drunk tank at Oxford PD dept. Forget that. I'm really trying to stop lieing. That was unkind and I regret it.

It was not Sigma Chi that kept Bully. I'm pretty sure it was Lamda Chi.

I graduated in 1976. I remember Bully getting kidnapped a couple times but don't remember him every dying from it. I'm pretty certain that moving him to the vet school had nothing to do with a death.

that bully was kidnapped by UM students and hung from a goal post in retaliation for some state students setting fire to their football field, or that the fire was the retaliation for the hanging.Anyone else heard anything likethat?
