Hi wvbg, I agree 100% that HOW you recruit has changed a lot over the years and will continue to do so. My point was that the bottom line is the same in that each team is trying to put together the most talented team that they can. When you say Ky. has exploited the OAD rule more than any other that implies they are doing something wrong or half way illegal. That's like saying North Carolina exploits using MJ to help with recruiting or Duke points to all of coach K's wins or UCLA uses their 10 championship to recruit. What did happen was the first year Cal was here when the 5 guys got drafted in the first round that hadn't been done before he said at the time that it was one of the greatest things to happen at Ky. Us fans said who the heck does think he is, we are Ky. we've had many great moments. What he knew and every coach in America knew was he just created a brand for Ky. just like Coke, and a recruiting advantage, that spoke to every HS basketball player in America that said if you are at the very top of the elite HS players and your potential says you have a great chance to make it to the league quickly then you got to look at going to Ky. There are probably going to be 5 to 10 players each year that will be OAD each year and they are the cream of the crop. Still amazes me how physically ready these 17 and 18 year old kids are today again not like the old days. So if you want some of the best players that's who they are. At first everyone said you could not win with freshman but that has been shown not to be true. Tell me if Okafor walked into the coach at Marshall and said coach I want to play for you what would he say? Pretty sure he'd be ok with that. Dangling NBA contracts in front of kids makes it sound like a coach can guarantee all these kids to be OAD which of course no coach can do. Now if you want to argue that Ky. has had a better record of putting OADs in the league then history for now proves that out. Ky. does not get all the OADs so they must be getting in late to that unfair professional draft. As far as Cal being dirty and a long history of recruiting violations (which isn't true on the violation part) well that's what people will say and I understand that. What happened at UMASS and Memphis is well documented. Don't forget WWW, paying players and Nike connection etc is kind of like me saying my neighbor beats his wife, I have no evidence of that but I want it to be true cause I don't like him. Like we all say we don't like the guys in congress except our guy and he's wonderful. LOL I'm an old fart and I'd love to see the great kids play in college for 3 or 4 years but it's not going to happen so just sitting around and bitching about it is doing just that, doesn't serve much purpose except to hear ourselves talk. The more I look at the NBA rule/OAD it probably is the best for the kids but we as fans think more of what we want. You say this is not college basketball but it is, just as you said recruiting isn't the same. Things change and tomorrow it will be different still.
