It might be a losing battle fighting for Collins. Even if we can keep the FSUs of the world off him, at some point someone will offer a HC which he will accept.
Collinsis is set up for another great year in 2014. We return 8 out of 11 starters, and have some serious talent on the two deep. Plus, no Manzhiel, Mettenburger, McCarron on the schedule. That sounds like a dream come true for a DC at MSU.

Losing a Cood as a HC isn't like losing one to a "better" school for the same position. We should like it when we lose a cood as a head coach bc it grows our HC's coaching tree and shows young coaches msu is a place you can reach the top instead of a step to the top IMO
would you rather have assistant coaches that aren't good enough to ever get HC offers?
theres a reason everyone boasts about Saban's coaching tree etc. if you're going to have great coaches then you will definitely lose them as well.
I agree, but if the Texas, Oklahoma, or Florida State's of the world want our DC, I don't think there is a great deal we can do about it.
Agree that losing an assistant to become a head coach almost anywhere isn't that bad and you can't blame the guy.
But (being delusional here), FSU isn't a "better" school, regardless of them winning the NC (they almost, and should have, lost to Auburn, which is realistically about 3rd or 4th in the SEC). FSU's in the ACC ... all the SEC is superior.

FSU is definitely a "better" school. Of course the SEC is the best conference, but that doesn't mean there aren't some damn good teams and programs outside the SEC. The fact is, FSU beat the undefeated SEC champions and the SEC was 0-2 in BCS bowls this year. FSU would have spanked most of the teams in the SEC and would likely have beat all of them this season.
I still think Many Diaz is a damn good DC and was just the scapegoat for bigger problems from within at TX.
If we were talking about Georgia Tech or Miami, I would probably agree, but FSU is a better DC job than MSU.
I've always felt that way. People point out that his 2010 defense was loaded with talent (and it clearly was), but you can't convince me that Texas did not have equal or greater talent while Diaz was there. I think there was another variable at play, besides Diaz.
Maybe, but he was pretty damn stubborn in his last few games.
They had their new dc scout opponents and come up w/ a game plan for BYU, which was sell out to stop the run. He didn't. Rather he kept up his aggressive blitzing package and just got gouged by BYU. I think Mack being such a players coach hurt the ability of coordinators to do their job. Kind of like trying to coach in Dallas knowing that any disciplinary moves you make could be countered by Jerry Jones and his meddling. Diaz doesn't seem like he is very versatile, but he's pretty damn good w/ the players to run his schemes. He didn't get that job by being an idiot.

If Collins were to leave, I'd love to have Manny back. I'd just like to see him stick around a while this time.
