Some of you know the name Lora Bickley from the VHSL. Others may know her from her support of the Louisa Lions. But, everyone of us has benefited from her dedication to the youth of our state for the "last 50 years".
Mrs Bickley has been the glue that has held the VHSL together through thick and thin for over 50 years now. Her wise council and attention to detail has assisted and guided the leadership of the VHSL longer than many of us have been alive.
The VHSL recently honored Mrs Bickley during the statewide membership meeting. Others have also honored and celebrated her 50 years of dedication and hard work at the VHSL.
The Louisa community appropriately honored Lora, (one of their own), this past Friday night.
Among the festivities was a very nice pre-game meal, and she was escorted on the field for a pre-game presentation extolling her contributions to not only the Louisa community, but to ALL athletics across the state.
By her own admission, her highlight of the night was the opportunity to hoist the Louisa Lion "12th man flag".
Lora was also driven around the field and got the opportunity to fire the "T" Shirt cannon. Her family, friends, and co-workers from the VHSL were in attendance. And perhapts best of all, using a ruse about an honorarium for previous teams, they were able to pull it all off as a complete surprise.
I salute the Louisa community for what they did for Mrs. Bickley.
And I salute Mrs. Bickley for setting a standard of personal integrity, honesty, and genuine kindness that we all would do well to immulate.
Thank you Lora. 50 years and counting!
