It’s quite surprising that they’ve kept that mascot. More surprising than the actual confederates keeping theirs the way it is.

Runnin’ Rebels, I don’t mind. Plantation-lovin’, limp-wristed, ‘heritage-lovin’’ Rebels is a whole nuther’ thing. My family fought for the South, but it’s time to put that away and live in the modern world. Go to h*ll, Ole Miss. I have spoken this.

Has he reached out to salmon to get us on their schedule yet? He will be looking for some easy wins that sound better than reality. Beating "an SEC team" in year 1 would be a feather in his cap.

A Rebel in Nevada has a totally different meaning than Rebel in Mississippi. Context is everything!
From the UNLV website:
UNLV’s nickname dates to the university’s origin in the mid-1950s, a time when a nation founded by rebels once again became obsessed with the idea of the iconic nonconformist. The decade of the 1950s was epitomized by young people rebelling against their parents’ middle-class American values. From popular motion pictures such as 1953’s The Wild One starring Marlon Brando and 1955’s Rebel Without a Cause starring James Dean, to “rebellious” musicians, such as Elvis Presley and the beginnings of rock and roll as it emerged from American blues music, the spirit of the times was rebellion.
very different from the Confederate Rebels

Not my ancestors. My ancestors were busy trying to be free. So yeah nothing wrong with rebels***
Yeah, a lot of folks don't care to think for a second about all the folks escaping Europe during the ww's either. They didn't really roll out the red carpet for them either.

So they are suggesting heavy influence from "rebel without a cause"...are we going to see some school name themselves the fighting tay tays or the slinging swifties?
