Simms is Clemson's leading scorer, rebounder and tops in assists. He lists at 6-8.5 and 245. This seems like our biggest problem because I don't know who can cover him. Do we go with Myles on him with Cliff on the court at the same time? If Harper covers him he needs to try a few flops to get a foul call. When we are on O Harper needs to drive on him to try to get him in foul trouble.

Mini version of Cockburn doesn't sound too effective, much of Cockburn's game is being giant and very strong. This guy shoots from the outside it seems

Per ESPN, Clemson runs a lot of pick and rolls with him. Of the shots he’s taken off that action, 60.5% go in. The offense runs through him. I assume they include pick and pop action in that stat as well because he shoots 41% from 3 point range. Pike has to have the team ready to shut him down. Myles needs to be ready to hedge those screens. Force their guards to try and beat us.

if he's like Lindell of OSU or Williams of Purdue, that's what gave us problems...outside of Garza, etc...athletic power guys have given us problems it seems this season.

Who guards him may depend on the size of the other players who get significant minutes. They have two 6-10 freshman on the roster but not sure how much they play. Pike is always saying MJ can guard a variety of opponents so we shall see. The key maybe whether we can attack him on the other end and bring foul trouble into the equation.

Agree. Johnson is at his defensive best against true centers, rather than chasing PFs

Until Myles can show that he’s able to defend without fouling, this is concerning.
How many games has Myles fouled out this year? We need to stop promoting this perception. The story you should be promoting is certain B1G refs are happy with the whistle because of the name on the jersey. I suspect the BS calls to be less than normal since the tournament games are not B1G controlled.

Judging by minutes played it appears starters are 5-10, 6-2, 6-4, and 2 at 6-8.

Simms is a very good player. Inside and outside. But not anywhere near as powerful as Williams of Purdue or, obviously, Kofi. Liddell is probably the better comp. Myles will not be covering him.

They play a lot of time without a true center.... their two 6-10 guys combine for only about 21 minutes a game. For the other 19 min, the biggest guy on the floor for them will be Simms (6-8, 245) or Tyson (6-8, 215). Johnson will end up guarding them plenty.

Yeah Simms nowhere close to being as big a physical presence
as Kofi or Trevon. Myles length will be a problem for them

He definitely seems to be more like EJ Liddell, Kyle Young, or Franz Wagner

Against us this year:
Liddell averaged 31 min, 18 pts, 6 rb
Young averaged 30.5 min, 15 pts, 8.5 rb
Wagner managed 35 min, 20 pts, 7 rb

I'm just hoping we can defend Simms better than we did Lat Mayen.

From what I’ve seen of Clemson, he’s a problem. He’s the kind of guy Indiana needs on their roster. This is going to be an ugly game. I doubt Clemson wants a fast pace and I really doubt they’ll let Rutgers run. I would press the crap out of them outta the gate and that would let JY get his mojo going...

Even against a smaller, opponent, I think folks are over estimating Myles’ offensive skill set.

Sounds like quick foul trouble for Myles unless they give up the size and let someone else play him.

Couldn’t find the thread where this was originally be discussed, but this is a game where it would an advantage if Paul at 6”6’ or 6”7’ had developed a post up game. Maybe next year.

Stopping Johnson is more about denying the entry pass, and then doubling when he gets the ball on the post. If they double, then it'll leave our shooters open outside - but we then have to make them pay by hitting those shots. If we can't hit from deep, they'll double Johnson all night.

Seems like the perfect time for us to feed MJ in the low post and get them in foul trouble.
