Abam Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 21, 2017) - Following her game-winning goal in the No.1 Mountaineers’ season-opening victory, Michaela Abam of the women’s soccer team has been named the West Virginia University Student-Athlete of the Week.
A senior forward, Abam tallied a goal in the 11th minute to push WVU to a 1-0 win at No. 5 Georgetown. The Houston native perfectly headed the ball in from about eight-yards out after receiving a cross from junior forward Sh’Nia Gordon. Abam finished with a team-best three shots.
With the goal, the 33rd of her career, Abam moved to No. 6 on the Mountaineers’ all-time career goals list. She now shows 79 career points and continues to rank No. 9 in the program’s record book.
This Week in Women’s Soccer: The No. 1-ranked Mountaineers open their home season at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium against No. 11 Virginia on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 4 p.m. ET, and follows with a 5 p.m. kick against Duquesne on Sunday, Aug. 27 … Thursday is a Dollar Day, and all tickets and select concessions are available for $1 each … it’s also Poster Night, and all fans in attendance will receive a free Mountaineer schedule poster … Sunday is Dog Day, and fans wishing to bring their dog to the stadium must bring a completed attendance waiver with them … waivers can be found at WVUsports.com … additionally, the Mountaineers will meet with fans following Sunday’s contest.
