Not sure the yardage but they gave up a big chunk to Bluefield. But they only allowed one big run that I can remember. Around 50 yds I believe it was. Maybe someone else knows the totals.

Bluefield and Union are the only 2 teams that have run the ball with any effectiveness on the Blues. I am not sure what the numbers were with Union though. I'll try to find out. But I know they had 1 big run right as the half was coming to a close to score a crucial td. It was around a 40 or 50 yard run. They caught the Blues sleeping, with them thinking Union was going to just run out the clock and the kid broke a big one.
Union had over 100. Bluefield had over 100. No other team has had more than 40. Many teams have been negative at the end of the night.
Curious about the contradictory logic. If as many said, Abingdon, a 3A school was not a real test for Richlands because they had only played sub par teams, then what does that say about Richlands being primed for the playoffs? If that is true then the only really good team then that Richlands has played (if not Abingdon) was Union and that was a loss. Some of you guys want it both ways. You hail the lopsided scores and the yardage but then say the team you played wasn't a real test. Am I confused or isn't that contradictory. And what if Union isn't the real deal either? Other than Richlands what other real good team has Union beat? Union just squeaked by both Gate and Central neither of which are world beaters.

The one team in 2A that everyone should be worried about is Appomattox. Look at their record and the teams they have beaten and you can't help but be impressed. Buckingham, Rustburg 3A, and they demolished Heritage 3A. If I am a coach in 2A west I would want them on the opposite side of the bracket for sure.
I don't think your confused, I just think your talking about something you would have to see to understand. Abingdon would remind you of Cave with Woodrum except they have no Sam Wright and their run D needs some work. Pass wise they have a 4 or 5 receivers who can burn you. Very solid test as far as pass game.
Union beat David Crockett a 4A TN team who just beat TN High.
But then outside of Giles who has your team played?
Our QB was in his second game when we played Union, he has done some growing since then.
Bluefield has a run game that would make you think of Gretna in their best days, they have the fastest player in the State of WV.

Reward.. I've been singing the same tune for weeks now. Appomattox has an impressive resume. Let's not forget Appomattox also plays 4A Amherst County in two weeks.
Richlands had Union, Bluefield and Abingdon as the three major tests this season. Abingdon plays a normal southwest Virginia type of schedule. They have all AA teams plus Blacksburg Christiansburg. It's not that their schedule this week, it's that it's not the schedule of Gate City or Richlands.
Make no mistake about it, this Abingdon team can beat a lot of teams. Their biggest issue is that they are an outlier in 3A W, with the closest team to them Blacksburg. Their QB is the real deal, and that offense doesn't average 44 ppg for nothing.
I think most knew Richlands would score. The question for us was how would our defense fare against another elite offense. I think they passed the test with flying colors.

Most of us in this part of the country have been looking at Appomattox schedule for the last 5 or 6 weeks, we know they are a tall test. What's clear to me is the top 6 teams in 2A west will be a tall test, much better than last year.

If you compare the 3 teams opponents that they have played so far (subtracting the win/loss for when they played each opponennt.)
Richlands: 43-22: Opponents win 66% of their games
Glenvar: 34-23: Opponents win 59% of their games
Appomattox: 33-25 Opponents win 56% of their games
Richlands has handed two opponents (Bluefield, Abingdon) their only losses of the year while their only loss came to undefeated Union.
Glenvar has handed one opponent (Giles) its only loss
Appomattox has handed one opponentt (Buckingham) its only loss.
There is the numbers for "who have they played"

let's not forget about Bluefield. This year's team might not be on par with last year's team but they definately have a good team that could make a deep run.
Abingdon has some weaknesses. They also have a very good offense that could keep them in any game. If they could find a way to stop the run I believe they could do well in the playoffs.
Nobody is doubting Appomattox. We know they are for real. But another poster stated Heritage is pretty bad this year.

Don't worry about Richlands being ready for the playoffs, we've got a little experience with the playoffs and know what it takes to make a deep run........we'll be ok.
I'm not questioning Richlands or Union or talking smack (well maybe a little). They both sound like great teams. The point spreads/yardage stats don't say that much IMO. Heck, Glenvar was up 55-0 at halftime winning 62-0 and it coulda been much worse but I am not going to use those as a talking point about how good Glenvar is. The only stats that matter in terms of comparisons are the ones against the really good teams playing at full strength. Those are hard to ignore. We have five really good contenders for the West. Can't wait to see weeks 12-15 regardless of whether my team wins or not.
Go back and look at some other threads about Richlands and Abingdon game. You may get curious too.
Surely you're not comparing Glenvars win over Eastern Montgomery to Richlands win over Abingdon.
Can't wait for the seedings to be determined to see what the matchups look like.

Are you looking at before game vs after game messages? We knew Abingdon had some very good strength, we just didn't know how good they were, they were undefeated. Abingdon is in a change process. They a have coach that has been there a couple years that Is turning them in to what they can be. The coach is a former Gate City player and one of his assit. coaches is the former Gate City coach of many years, even coached at Emory some.

Yes Trevor. That was my point. Glenvar's win/stats against a winless team doesn't mean anything and I wouldn't use that as it skews the picture. Glenvar's stats against Galax and Giles do show something; primarily shows they have a great defense; they believe they can win; and they never quit and find a way to win. Richlands win against Abingdon and close loss to Union does show they are a great team. I didn't agree that Abingdon was a weak team in spite of some comments on this thread and other threads. That was a good win for Richlands.

Glenvar...Came back to beat Giles & Galax and pieces are coming together late on offense
Union...Beat Richlands and a good out of state team...
Giles...beat decent 3A Blacksburg, 3ACburg, Galax teams and lost to Glenvar in a thriller
Richlands...beat Abingdon, lost to Union in a thriller
Appomatox has separated itself from the other four based on being undefeated with the toughest schedule IMO. If they beat Amherst then even more so. You can swap Glenvar with Union or Giles with Richlands. All four teams are very close IMO and you can make an argument for any of them 2-5.
I think you forgot to add Bluefield to Richlands list. I can promise you they are considered a good win by people who know about them ! We will find out who are the contenders and who are the pretenders........it always works itself out in the end.

Their opponents have won less of their games than Glenvar or Richlands. Don't get me wrong Appomattox is great and has just as good a shot as the others, but the numbers show their schedule isn't as tough as you claim

I love reading all this speculation...here's the facts folks....head to head is all that matters...every year I say this...being healthy and at home helps but it's almost playoff time....don't be flat...be ready...when giles played Appomattox a couple years back it was a very close game...they were very excited and very cocky...and a bit mouthy...but they played well...Richlands is big and seem ready...union and Richlands would be nice to see again...always close...glenvar n giles would be nice to see again...truth is...I hate rematches..but playoffs in two weeks and brackets will determine who plays who...gotta win em all after that...if you'renot in Salem you're not remembered...
Agree with GHS all the way. The team that gets hot will win it. No team is favored. Head to heads are all that matters and they don't really matter either because Glenvar barely got by Giles at home and same with Union over Richlands. Appomattox and Glenvar have the best defense, Giles the best running game, Union the big plays, and Richlands sounds like the most balanced. Strap um on boys going to be fun to watch down the stretch.
You may be right Big and I'll admit I don't know much about Bluefield but doubt that win is on par with the Rustburg/Buckingham wins in Appomattox schedule and Richlands still lost to Union. They may still win it all. Glenvar lost to Giles last year 33-0 and still came back and won with a 9-1 record but I wouldn't have ranked them higher than 5th in 2A west before the playoffs.
I really just compared the big wins/losses in the schedule when I said Appomatoox had the toughest schedule. , Not to say yours is invalid at all but there are five teams that are all very good this year and few common opponents.
My take on Glenvar is they go as Clifford goes at QB. If he's on target and isn't pressured, they will be in the mix. I said before and will say again in regular season Giles game last year he wasn't on and they lost 33-0 and wasn't on against Radford who should have beaten them the prior week. In the playoffs he threw darts and the result was much different.
. You're right...he needs time which his line has given him most of the time. He also rolls out well on on play action. He has played extremely well under pressure (4th quarter comeback against Giles and last series against Galax). #7 adds another great weapon now that he is back as he has a great nose for the ball and great hands. You can't just key on them as #1/#9 are both making some great plays down the stretch as well. This is the best receiving group Glenvar has ever had. which means Glenvar is never out of the game til the old lady sings. .
I agree with Ryan, I think it is a 6 team race and any of the 6 can get hot and win it all. All the speculation is fun and all, but in a couple of weeks, it wont mean a hill of beans, but isn't it fun to think about !

According to the Bristol Herald Courier, Union rushed for 206 yards on 23 carries vs. Richlands.
That sounds about right. I said 100+ because I knew it was more than 100 but wasn't sure it was at 200 or not. Aside from a play here and there, we held their big players and passing attack in check, so they moved to a more power running game and we couldn't adjust in time.
