I don't think anyone is thrilled with the way we're playing right now, but I will say one thing about this scenario:

Going away to South Carolina, a team we previously beat by 30, who hasn't won an SEC game, but who has been very close to winning against good teams?

That's a game many, many previous MSU teams lose. I'm happy with the dub.

And Riley Kugel continues to be the man offensively on this team. Our offensive issues started when he got hurt after scoring eight points in eight minutes against Kentucky.

He is our most accurate 3-point shooter both overall and in conference play, and in conference play it is not close. He is also our most creative and skilled player with the ball.

There is a reason Ben Howland went out of his way to get him a few years ago.

Agree. I went into that game thinking a loss was a real possibility. The intangibles definitely favored USCe.

Why do you think Kugel doesn't get more minutes? He is right there with Shawn Jones in conference play in minutes.

I think it’s a combination of motivation and defense. I’m not sure Kugel is a self-motivator. Jans may think he needs a fire lit.

Defensively he’s a hair behind Melendez and Jones, but in my mind the added stress he puts on opposing defenses is worth that trade. You’ve just got to guard him, and he can beat you with his shot or off the dribble.

Kugel at his best is inconsistent & at his worst unstable as a player. He has NBA skills though. He is a good 3 point shooter, he can really run & jump, he can handle the ball, and his physical attributes make him a good defender except when he gets lost. He can always drive and get his shot. Unfortunately though he has games like @ Vandy when he played like he was bi-polar and off his meds. Kugel has the highest ceiling of any player on our roster. We are a top ten team when he plays well.

Cam and SJ have given solid defensive minutes lately but they’v combined for 2 pts in the last two games. Very low output for two guys combining for 50-60 mins a game. When those two play like they did at Vandy were a top 10 team.

I could make an argument that Kugel is as consistent as anyone on our team. Everyone wants to talk about the Vandy game, but Matthews, Hubbard, Melendez, etc. have all had games that bad.

You know he literally didn’t play against Auburn due to injury, right?
Im not so much concerned about Kugel its the lack of an offense being run. Hope to see it corrected. I had high hopes for this team.
