I wonder if the high school guidance counselors have anything to do with it? Sometime a HS counselor may send info about a gifted student to a particular school or schools, and that may get the recruiting action/mail started. Perhaps OM/other schools are more proactive than MSU by canvassing high schools and requesting info on the highest achievers, I don't know. But having gone through the process with 2 kids within the last 8/9 years, I do know that if ACT scores are sent to MSU, the student will get plenty of info/attention. And I can say that your son's ACT of 33 should pretty much be a full ride at MSU.

You get the point. If you want your kid to get more looks don't keep him bottled up.

Same experience here.
Daughter is a junior, straight A's, honors.... Almost everything, up to 26 on ACT.
OM was sending 10-1 what State was in the mail.
Both parents alumni, both grandfathers alumni ( one if which is a substantial donor).
We actually had to call MSU to start receiving mail.

My kid, while an out of stater, found MSU through my brother in law, who is a Bama grad. When little Fletch expressed interest in Chem Engine, he immediately told us about a friend who had gone to State and done well in a tough course. After seeking it out ourselves it was clear this was the place to attend Little Fletch also had a 33 on the ACT and I am not exaggerating when I say that MSU is literally paying for LF to attend. They are generous with the funds for kids with ACT and grades like that.

You are so very wrong.

Back in 2002 when I was a senior in high school, my parents and I had a 30 min meeting with the MSU president in his office. We also sat in the President's box for a football game. I didn't send out anything other than mark on my ACT to send scores to Harvard, Vandy, and MSU. YOU or your son dropped the ball.

So you are saying you sent you stuff to MSU and he is saying he didn't send it to MSU or OM but OM is chasing his son like a 5* athlete. Do you not see the point he is making?

harder than any of the area schools. I've heard this from Ole Miss parents - that though they want their kids to go there, they can't deny that the MSU recruiters have shown more love. I wouldn't impugn our whole approach just because your child has not had the love others have - I'd take it up directly with the administration and maybe you'll find there is a reason on the oversight.

Congrats on the ACT score though

So everybody relax. If your kid is smart enough you'll hear from MSU!*****
