<span class="pp">CL Article this morning:</span></p>
Among other concerns Freeze has had to address is academic issues among some players. Thirty-four players enrolled in the two-week intersession, with only one earning less than a C grade, Freeze said.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>"I thought that was a good start," Freeze said. "We got some issues and challenges there. Hopefully this spring will go a long way towards telling us who is serious about changing and getting out of the hole they have put themselves in."<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>Freeze said there's a possibility some players might be held out of spring practice if their academic performance doesn't improve

</p>

As itwasdiscussed this morning in the CL aritcle and has been widely discussed here, what is goingto happenat TSUN with the player academic issues? Does anyone know who is in hot water or is not going to be able to play spring ball? I seriously think this isa ploy by Freeze to make his players think he is serious about academics and to light a fire under their ***. He knows he needs every single body he has tocompeteright now , and knows he cant afford to lose anybody to attrition, especially Snoop Brassell. </p>

Do a lot of schools do this 2 week intercession? My wife is getting her Master's from Ole Miss and just finished up a 2 week class like this. She worked her *** off but it was a good deal to get that many hours in just 2 weeks

making sure the "right guys" are able to make their grades.

ETA...I would be willing to bet (not literally bet like the Nafoom douches) that none of their key players like Brassell, CJ, etc, end up missing spring practice.

At least back when I was in grad school there they did... but there's were done at the end of the spring semester. Sort of like a mini-summer school before the full summer semester started.

i think it may have been a 1-year thing and the admin decided they didn't want to do it anymore.

A 2 week class is something you do if you either need to graduate on time or have to get your GPA up ASAP. So apparently 34 players out of 85 on scholarship had Academic deficiencies? At what point do you sue Nutt for negligence, he didn't prepare them on the field or the classroom. And they're still paying him hs buyout!

..in the signing day edition of the CL, the OM reporter indicated there is a 100% chance OM football is about to suffer attrition.

Don't know what that means exactly, but it sounds like an ominous proclamation.

How would you like to be the instructor when 15 or so football players all roll in for your two week course and you know that many of them (from the press) likely have grade issues? That would be interesting to say the least.

Pre-session classes are typically limited in their offerings depending on the department and the content. So it wouldn't be out of the question to have a bunch of those guys all in one class.

It's 34 out of the returning scholarship players --- which is less than 85. Probably something like 65-70. That's half the players on scholarship.

Everyone that they want to be eligible in the Fall will be eligible. Those of you getting your hopes about mass casualties due to grades are going to be in for a disappointment.<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div>

From the NCAA eligibility requirements, student athletes must finish their first collegiate YEAR @ 90% of the GPA required for graduation. Thus, by my understanding, they just have to pull their cumulative GPA up to 1.8 after the spring semester to retain eligibility.

I think it's safe to say that at least 25-30 of them are in question academically... but they do have plenty of time to pull the grades up before being declared ineligible.

Heard from a team source that Tobias and Snoop were both near the 1.0 mark....and that Snoop now has an athletics dept escort to/from class...

There is no way they can afford to have that many fail to qualify for football in the fall of 2012. Grades will be given out handily over the coming months

if they (the coaching staff) can get Brassell to go to class enough to not get dropped, the grades will take care of themselves. I have no clue as to who didn't pass the intersession, but if I had 3 guesses, Snoop would be the first two.
