Perry needs to play mop up, I thought that was obvious last season. No offense to the young man but lacks the quickness for the SEC
I think others mention that it is better for Perry to stay in UK for four years, even if he may never go pro, as a local who has stayed in the UK for four years, he’s likely to receive strong support if he pursues any career in Lexington after college, and he could still have a successful post-basketball life.

If it weren’t for the shortage of players in Pope’s first year, I don’t think Perry would’ve been recruited. Just look at the high school offers in Pope’s second year, they’re almost all five-stars and high four-stars.

Next year. Year 2 Lewis was gonna be a really good PG
And who knows where he plays he's year 2 and if its even the same school he plays year 1 at lol.

Portal has changed everything lol.

I'll be interested to hear the story behind this one, but if Pope wasn't willing to guarantee a starting spot or even a certain amount of minutes and that scared Lewis out, good riddance.

What’s funny is YOU think you know what’s best for him.

What's funny is you're too ignorant to read and understand that I never said I know what's best for him. Try not to be so emotional if you're able.

I don't care what he decides in the end. I'm just surprised someone would think or expect that they're going to be the only good PG at UK in a given year. Seems like he hadn't thought about his future much at all, or he'd have realized his team would be looking for quality depth at every position. It's tough to find a college team with just 5 players.

I've learned to never doubt Pope. But head scratching atm lol. This just happened recently. Like way recently, so recently. That I'm lost for shirt ideas. "Pope is Jewish, and therefore lost lewis". "Whose the newest? Signed Lewis".

I watched DJ Wagner start over Dillingham and Shep for an entire year because of a promise. I watched Quade Green start over SGA because of a promise. I’m not gonna get too upset about a kid decommitting because he didn’t get a promise.

110% agreed

This is either the most sophisticated thing I’ve ever read and light years beyond my reading comprehension or some meme thing I’m just not familiar with lol. Either way I’m ignorant

No but you sell Lewis on the situation one way or another. That’s part of the job at a major program. Make Lewis feel comfortable and give him assurances.
Come on Jamal, you KNOW as well as I do that co.fort and assurances are not the driving force or the solution in this case. Somebody offered him more money and a starters job. Obviously Pope wasn't going to be held hostage by either demamd

Why even try to get a backup PG? We have Lowe, Johnson and Perry already who play PG and Oweh can play it in a pinch. I wish he’d just get an elite shooter like Wilkerson and add a pure stretch four.
Exactly. Jasper was a pg his whole career in Kentucky before he went off to prep school. Rated the #3 pg in his class his junior year. I'm hoping for Wilkerson. Then Jasper is the first guard off the bench along with Chandler who can play both.

First, I wish Lewis stayed at UK. He’s going to be a good player.

But, here’s reality of modern college basketball. Good/great teams are led by older guards. (Just look at SEC this year.) You can sprinkle in some young players, but older guards dominated the league and the tourn.

Here’s 2nd reality. It’ll be difficult to bring in another quality PG. Lowe was brought in to start. Chandler had tremendous improvement throughout season. Perry is serviceable in spot minutes. Jasper wants to play some PG. Very few incoming players want to fight that log jam.

I’m guessing spot gets filled with a stretch 4.

Not sure how long you’ve been posting here but your posting style reminds me of an old poster DUNSTILLFREENALIVE. Miss that dude.

I’m starting to think that Lewis didn’t choose UK because he truly liked the school or Pope, but because of playing time. At the time, UConn had already recruited Adams and Mullins as guards, and Duke had Boozer, so he believed he would be the top backcourt option at UK. If other schools like UConn or Duke had had open spots, he would have gone there instead. He never really saw UK as his top choice.

All in all, with the looming legal issues we could be dodging a bullet.

Yeah. It's tough enough to focus on basketball when at UK when you're a highly recruited player. A LOT of players in the past have struggled here while dealing with family matters. It's not going to be easy for him no matter where he goes, but he'll find that out on his own.

That was one of my thoughts at the time. I never saw the type of appreciation for UK with Lewis that we have seen with JQ this spring, and almost the entire most recent roster. I really have missed having players that wanted to play for Kentucky. It's been great to experience that again. If his heart wasn't in it, it just wasn't a good fit

If I am Pope, I would probably make very few offer in 26 class.

One is in-state prospect Taylen Kinney, one is Anthony Thompson, 6-8 athletic shooter who can contribute in day 1

3-4 other not that highly ranked players who have huge potential (and willing to develop his game on the bench) or are physical ready in compete in SEC in day 1

Then just fill up the roster in transfer portal again

I thought you put me on ignore Woody? Couldn’t stay away huh?

Oh well… please let me know how I should respond to cornball name calling you silly goof.
You still haven't addressed the question of why your boy Lewis didn't think he could compete with a 38% shooter. If he's this fringe-transcendent player you claim he is, why did he buckle so easily at the first sign of sub-par competition?

Your argument needs some refining.
