ACC going to a 9 game schedule…well except for one team.

With 17 teams they can’t make the math work so one team will only play 8

This may lead to Clemson playing 11 P4-equivalent games per year unless something changes. They have a long term agreement with Notre Dame to play annually and presumably they will keep playing South Carolina.

Clemson is going to the B1G which is a great move for them. SEC too stupid to see the quality and quantity Clemson brings, so we will overlook them for alleged TV eyeballs in NC (good idea) and VA (bad idea).

They are dang near AAU status so it makes sense, in many ways. They’ll stay P2, get more money, and have an easier schedule. The benefits for the B1G are obvious.

I know I’m old school but I still can’t see the reasoning or necessity of having 16, 17, 18 team Conferences.
What was wrong with Regionality and having a maximum of 12 teams ?
I definitely can’t see how having teams criss/cross the country to play each other several times a year makes any sense.
I know the Presidents and AD’s that make a lot more than I do and are supposedly smart men/women, I just don’t see how they think that’s a good idea.
Unless, it is as they say, ….. It’s All About The Money.

Notre Dame has an agreement with the ACC to play I think at least 4 teams every season. It’s the deal they struck to play their other sports in the ACC.

If they insist on continuing Notre Dame's special treatment, they should have 12 teams play 9 games, 5 teams play 8 + ND, and count the games against Notre Dame in the standings.

They are? That’s news to me. We’ll see. As for Clemson - Notre Dame, they’re currently scheduled to play 2027-2038 but that could change.

Not right now. But I think that’s the move once the time comes. What other school would be more coveted? North Carolina is the only one that might. I could see maybe Georgia Tech because that gets you into Atlanta.

I just see that as a pretty big dick move for Clemson. Would be a dagger at the SEC, who is trying to act all high and mighty.

A lot can happen over the next 5-6 years. Just too early to say what will happen. And when it does, I'm sure there will be some surprises. Nobody expected the SEC to add Texas and Oklahoma and nobody expected the Big 10 to add USC and UCLA.

There's just not many programs left that can add the muscle necessary to join the B2, unless it just becomes a situation where they take anyone who is willing to pay or something.

Once the ACC dam breaks, I still see the B1G and SEC capping itself at 20 members for the foreseeable future. I have no idea who makes that cut, but I have to think North Carolina and Clemson are easy shoo-ins. They'd have already been raided if not for the ACC BoR. Reason the B1G and SEC went the way they did is because it was low-hanging fruit.

There won't be a set cap for either Big 10 or SEC. And more than decent chance they don't end up at the same number. You're right, there's just very few schools that are going to be worth either conference adding. Probably Miami, FSU, UNC, and maybe UVA, Clemson, and/or NC State. If either SEC or Big 10 could get 4 of them, they will. More likely they split 2 and 2.
