If this article from ESPN is any indication, it appears that Mullen is safe as far as Stricklin is concerned. http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/74802/mullen-not-bothered-by-the-hot-seat
While he probably is safe right now, it's crazy to try to read anything into that. What would you expect Stricklin to say? ADs are always going to use that "vote of confidence" approach in public right up until the day they actually fire the coach...
Outgaining a team by 78 yards is pretty significant. Do that and you'll almost always win the game unless you're -2 or worse on turnovers.

Why wouldn't Mullen's job be safe?
Care to point out the facts or statistical data that contradict what I posted? Here's a link that supports me.

Muddawgs, you obviously haven't been keeping up with MSU football or you wouldn't be asking that question. Since you don't follow the team, I don't believe that your question is worthy of a response.
Losing 11 out of 16 is probably part of it.
4 top ten teams and another that's ranked 11th and to a top 20 Lsu deserves you to get fired at Mississippi State? You need to wake up. We had been to 1 bowl in the last 8 years before Mullen got here. He's taken us to 3 straight bowls. Apparently, you don't follow the team. Everyone was saying this would be a down year and yet you dumb17s want Mullen fired because he's lost to 6 ranked teams. Is there reason for concern? You bet, but there isn't any reason to fire Mullen after this season. He's won 4 of 5 egg bowls and I know 4 of 6 after this year right? I keep forgetting we are the football juggernauts of the world with our awesome tradition of winning and not firing coaches. We can't have 1 down year because we will never be able to rebound from that and Ole Miss will pass us by so we will never catch them again. **
yeah because that's what I'm saying... and it pretty much is year in and year out playing in the SEC West....then he can lose every game and never be fired, according to you.
Muddawgs, I am glad that every MSU fan is not like you. You represent the status quo and apparently believe that because we are lowly MSU, we shouldn't expect to compete with other teams in the SEC West. You are perfectly content if we beat Kentucky, have only one or two blow out losses against conference opponents, with the rest of the games being respectable losses against SEC competition. I am sure that you wet your pants with excitement when we beat teams like Alcorn State and Troy State. I suspect that if you had your way Rocky Felker would still be head coach.
you don't know **** about me. If we had more fans like you, we would have a new coach every season. Status quo? Why because I don't think we should fire a coach who has taken us to 3 straight bowls and will have the most talent and depth next season that HE'S built up? I don't agree with everything Dan does, but you Mother17ers that are blowing Hud like he's the next coming of Bear Bryant have lost your 17ing minds.
Yep -- totally outlandish bunch of morons!1!

But hey -- I'm PUMPED about finishing in the top 70 and making 3 bowls in 5 years... Lifetime contract. That's excitement personified at MSU.
Meanwhile, we're 1.5 point favorites over the worst team in the conference -- while OM is 2 point underdogs to a top 10 team...
This kind of post is the sarcasm I was referring to. I'm sure you'll say something about "I have only posted an average of 2.75 times in this thread and that averages out to...". Save it.
Where did I say he deserved to be fired as of today? Please link it...Who said Hud was a bad coach. I didn't. And who said they are happy with this season? I didn't. Not one time have I said I was super excited and we can't do any better than Dan Mullen. I just have a different opinion on when a coach is deserving to be fired. I don't think Mullen has reached that point.
Yeah -- I hear this everytime someone disagrees with me.You are one of the biggest 17ing idiot posters on this board now after you use to be a pretty good poster.
********. My thinking is based off Mullen PROVING that he isn't getting it done and isn't improving AT ALL as a coach over time -- and having a narrow window of opportunity with the assumed successor. The fact that Freeze is getting it done right now with a **** roster and no draftable seniors just PROVES how average Mullen has been. What is it going to take for some of you to admit this "reality" to yourself? You guys can say what you want, but your thinking is based off Ole Miss success this season. If Ole Miss was 3-7 instead of 7-3, you would have fans disappointed with the season, but no where near as many idiots calling for Mullen to be fired after 1 bad season in a down year.
Yeah -- seeing how that team was better than this one led by Dak Prescott and Tyler Russell... No one is complaining about year 1 or year 2.God forbid Mullen didn't make a bowl in his first season with Tyson Lee quarterbacking..
Such is life in the SEC. Everyone is one loss away from the hot seat.Like I said, there is reason for concern, but there is no reason for the head hunting that's been going on. You guys are ridiculous. Funny how a couple of years make when people were begging Mullen to not take another job to now hoping he takes one.
Say what? Nice straw man argument. What's ULL's strength of schedule? What's Msu strength of schedule? I can tell you one is at the top and the other is at the bottom, but I'll let you figure out which one... Don't bring that BS ULL is higher than us in the BCS when the best team they played was 6-4 Kansas St. which they lost by 21 and don't forget the 20 point beating Arkansas gave them. Yeah clearly ULL is a better team than Msu. You were spouting that **** in 2010 when Mullen had Msu finish 15th in the BCS standings...
You can answer them all you want. I made a comment the other day about you using a lot of sarcasm, and you acted like you didn't know what I was talking about. Maybe you can write a blog about it.
Status quo? Why because I don't think we should fire a coach who has taken us to 3 straight bowls and will have the most talent and depth next season that HE'S built up?
